PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nycky Downtime (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rufus Speed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Downtime comes to the cage accompanied by Bring It. Rufus Speed told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 32 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Nycky Downtime!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rufus Speed!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Jeff Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Downtime lands an overhand right.
Downtime misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Downtime tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Speed was well out of range. Poor timing from Downtime.
Sloppy strikes from Downtime. Those never looked like landing.
Downtime takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Speed, as that shot connected.
Speed throws a jab when Downtime was well out of range.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Downtime!
Downtime misses with a straight left.
Speed works Downtime's body with a nice hook.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Speed with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Downtime throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Speed tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Downtime is in Speed's guard.
Downtime has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Downtime trying to control but Speed is working from the bottom.
Downtime pushing down on Speed's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Downtime decides to return to a standing position.
Speed fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Speed misses with a looping left.
Speed throws a jab but it's blocked by Downtime.
Downtime chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Downtime is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Downtime gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Speed.
Downtime shoots in but no luck this time.
Speed listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Speed punishes Downtime's body with a nice straight punch.
Downtime misses with a hook. Speed ducked under it nicely.
A chopping leg kick lands by Downtime.

Downtime on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Downtime throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Speed ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Downtime moves away.
Downtime blocks a jab.
Speed scores with a body shot.
Downtime tries to score with a low kick but Speed moves his leg out of the way.
Downtime does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Downtime lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Speed has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Speed and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Speed throws a nice outside leg kick.
Speed bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Downtime's head.
Speed checks a leg kick nicely.
Downtime lands a jab to Speed's midsection.
Downtime connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Speed lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Speed lands a jab.

Speed fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Downtime sprawls well initially but Speed persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Downtime tries to get to full guard but Speed has control of the leg.
Speed thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Downtime keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rufus Speed will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

A telegraphed right hand from Speed misses the target.
Downtime misses with an uppercut.
Speed scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

and Downtime counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Downtime takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
A head kick from Downtime lands but Speed takes it in his stride.

Speed is rocked!
Speed get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Speed stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Downtime runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!
