PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Markus Burt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danio Weber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Markus Burt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Danio Weber!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Weber closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Burt to the mat! Burt manages to get full guard.
Burt has Weber pulled in close to control his posture.
Weber content to stall in guard here.
Burt is trying to control the position but Weber postures up.
Burt can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Weber controls the pace.
Weber throwing strikes from guard but Burt blocks nicely.
Burt could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burt is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Weber is aware though and is defending well.
Weber prevents Burt from getting back to his feet.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Burt wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Weber is now in half guard.

Weber perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Burt looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Weber wants to control but Burt is keeping busy.
Weber makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Weber.

Burt got a little sloppy there for a moment and Weber has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Burt has managed to get both his arms back between Weber's legs - danger averted.

Weber looking for a sweep. Not yet Weber, not yet.
Weber lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

It looks like Weber might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Weber is pressing down on Burt's thigh, looking to free his foot. Burt is holding on for now.
Weber takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Weber is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Burt has managed to free his arm - good work.

Weber is looking for a kimura but Burt is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Weber to get the leverage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Weber lands with a punch from half guard.
Weber slows the pace down in half guard.
Burt keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Burt is trying to stand up here but Weber is controlling him well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Burt shoots for a takedown but Weber saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danio Weber dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Burt moves out of range of the body kick.
Weber slaps away a takedown attempt from Burt, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Markus Burt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Weber closes the distance and clinches.

Weber manages to break the clinch.
Burt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Weber avoids it really well and circles away.

Weber closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Burt quickly recovers to half guard.

Weber is working for a submission of some sort.

Burt is looking to control Weber's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Burt avoid being mounted?
Weber thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Weber's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

More stalling from Weber.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Weber drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Weber won't allow Burt to sweep him here.
Weber controls from within his opponent's guard.

Weber is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Danio Weber showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Burt tries to sprawl but Weber drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Burt is trying to maintain the position but Weber is very close to passing his half guard.

Burt is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Weber pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Weber goes for an armbar but Burt turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Burt.

Weber looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Weber is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Burt is controlling him.
Burt might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Weber is on top in guard.

Danio Weber has got the better of the ground game so far.

Weber drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Weber jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Weber engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Weber with more of the same as he continues to hold on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Weber postures up.

Burt is really struggling to control Weber but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Weber has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Burt is proving hard to escape from.
Weber slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Burt has a closed guard, preventing Weber from standing up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Weber dives in and scores a takedown into Burt's guard.

Burt bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Weber's guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Weber has his hands on Burt's head, controlling the position.

Weber is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Burt defends well.
Burt is looking to work some ground and pound but Weber has wrist control.

Weber wants to get back to his feet but Burt is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Danio Weber comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Weber has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
