Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cedric Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Zal!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, David Schapiro and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson shoots in but Zal avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jackson fails to land the takedown.
Jackson is looking to clinch but Zal is avoiding it.
Some bone on bone action there as Zal checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Zal fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jackson manages to avoid it.
Jackson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Zal as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cedric Jackson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Jackson gets through Zal's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Zal lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Jackson backwards.
Jackson has Zal pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Zal manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Jackson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Zal to keep the fight standing.
Zal is looking for a takedown.
Zal has Jackson pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Zal pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Jackson tumbling to the mat - Zal dives into Jackson's guard.
Jackson wants to control the position but Zal says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Jackson wants to control but Zal is keeping busy.
Zal is trying to control the action in half guard but Jackson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Zal takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Jackson is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zal is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Oh Jackson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jackson is trying to control but Zal manages to pass to mount!
Zal really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jackson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Zal lands a big elbow - Jackson is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Jackson is forced to tap out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Nick Zal!
