PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Alonso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Roberto Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thiago Alonso!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duran throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Alonso was covering up waiting for the punch and Duran finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Duran throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Alonso works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Alonso is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Alonso really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Duran. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Duran working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Alonso's head.
Alonso is looking to stand up but Duran isn't so interested in that idea.
Duran landing with the ground and pound.
Alonso wants to stand but Duran is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duran trying to control the position from guard on top but Alonso is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Duran stops Alonso from standing up.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Nice shot lands for Alonso.
Alonso lands an overhand right.
A decent looking cross lands there for Alonso.
Alonso throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A jab from Alonso does it's job there.
Duran has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Alonso scores with a jab to the body.
Good exchange - Alonso coming out on top.

Duran drops his hands momentarily and Alonso takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Alonso connects with a good right hand that stumbles Duran. Duran circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Duran shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alonso but Alonso pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Alonso wants to stand and escape but Duran is having none of it.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Alonso can do anything to dispel that myth.
Duran makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duran prevents Alonso from getting back to his feet.
Duran working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Alonso is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Nice takedown defense from Alonso. No joy for Duran on that attempt.
Alonso looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

and Alonso counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

The crowd cheers as Alonso lands an impressive looking overhand right. Duran doesn't seem phased though.
Alonso throws a right and a left that Duran avoids nicely.

and Alonso counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Duran throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Alonso digs a good body shot into Duran's ribs.

Alonso jabs Duran to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Alonso uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Alonso has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Alonso throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Alonso darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Duran shoots in for a takedown but Alonso shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Nice sprawl there from Alonso as Duran shoots in.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Alonso! But no joy.
Alonso cracks a nice hook into Duran's ribs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Alonso connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Alonso slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Duran takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

and Duran takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Alonso throws a combination. Duran tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Thiago Alonso showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Duran looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Alonso lands with a hook. Duran tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Alonso clobbers Duran with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Thiago Alonso is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Alonso slaps away a takedown attempt from Duran, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Duran shoots and misses
and Alonso counters with a straight right hand.
Thiago Alonso is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Alonso feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Durans jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Alonso connects with a crisp jab.
Alonso lunges at Duran with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Duran's hand.
Alonso lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Duran's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Alonso connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Duran scrambles back to his feet.
Duran takes one to the side of the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Duran is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Alonso fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Duran looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Nice uppercut there from Alonso.
Alonso lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Alonso tests Duran's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Duran moves forwards but Alonso connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Alonso lands a body shot.
Duran with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Alonso to score with a decent uppercut.

Alonso lands a right hook to the body.
A decent looking cross lands there for Alonso.
Duran gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Alonso scores with a nice head shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alonso sizes up Duran with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Roberto Duran has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Thiago Alonso comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Alonso winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
