The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

MacKay throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Russo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. MacKay is in Russo's guard.
MacKay in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
MacKay postures up and lands a big shot to Russo's brow.
MacKay lands a couple of decent looking shots.
MacKay stopping the sweep attempt from Russo.
Russo can't keep his opponent in guard - MacKay advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Russo blocking the ground and pound attempt from MacKay.
MacKay could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Russo is trying to control but can't.

MacKay is working for a submission of some sort.
MacKay uses his free foot to push down on Russo's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Russo.
MacKay lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Russo tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Russo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with MacKay. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

MacKay looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

MacKay is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Russo is forced to tap! Great finish!
