PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jon Armor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Joy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Jonathan Paton and Lou da Vinci.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crunch! Joy slams his shin into Armor 's torso.
Joy looks to land a combination but Armor avoids it well.
Joy misses with a head kick.
Joy lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Joy.

It looks like Jon Armor has been cut.

Joy gets tackled into the cage by Armor . Armor maintains the clinch.

Joy manages to break the clinch.
Joy cracks Armor with a good jab.
Armor throws a low kick but Joy avoids it.

Armor rushes Joy and presses him up against the cage.

Armor turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Armor working the body and head with strikes.
Joy wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Armor is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Joy avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Armor .
Armor lands some shots froms side control.
Armor in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Joy is looking for a sweep.
Armor knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Joy on the ground.
Joy gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Armor wants to stand up but Joy is controlling the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Joy slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Armor stops Joy from standing up.
Armor trying to control but Joy is working from the bottom.

Armor pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Joy is keeping the position for now.
Joy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Joy throws a quick inside leg kick.
Armor throws a right hand that Joy ducks under and follows up with a left that Joy also avoids with ease.

Joy scores with a head kick.
Armor tries to close the distance and clinch up but Joy swats him away and circles back towards the center.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Armor swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Armor really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Armor gets a clinch.

Armor has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Joy uses from the top position.
Armor bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Joy's guard.

Joy lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Joy working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Armor 's head.

Armor is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Joy presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Joy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Armor misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Joy lands with a kick to the temple. Armor shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Armor on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Joy connects with an inside leg kick.
Armor lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Armor .

Joy tries a body shot but Armor blocks it.

Joy manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Armor looking to sit in guard and control but Joy gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A close round but Jay Joy will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Armor looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Armor on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Joy lands with a good body shot.
No joy there for Armor , who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Armor shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Armor swats away the attempt to clinch by Joy.
Armor misses with a series of wild punches.
Joy throws a counter combo.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Joy scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Armor misses with a double jab.
Joy feints a jab promting Armor to slip. Joy then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Armor slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Joy lands with a slapping head kick.
Jay Joy seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A head kick misses from Joy.
Joy is breathing heavily.
Joy avoids a punch combination nicely.
Jon Armor is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nice takedown defense from Joy. No joy for Armor on that attempt.
Joy delivers a nice body kick.
Joy goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Joy feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Armor 's calf.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Joy misses with a head kick.

Joy throws a right and a left that both miss.
Joy stalks Armor and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Armor 's face. Armor staggers backwards, shaken.
Armor throws a nice outside leg kick.
Armor takes a kick to the side of the head.

Joy gets caught napping as Armor dives in and scores a takedown. Joy manages to retain guard.
Armor wants to stand and escape but instead Joy has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Joy tries to free his leg and advance position but Armor is retaining full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Armor is on top in guard.

Armor wants to get up but he can't break Joy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Armor postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Joy is pulling down on Armor 's head to control his posture.
Armor throwing strikes from guard but Joy blocks nicely.
Joy has a closed guard, preventing Armor from standing up.
Joy tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Armor is looking to stand up but Joy won't let him.

Joy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Armor passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Joy is trying to get back to half guard.

Armor thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Armor tries to move to mount but Joy blocks the move with his legs.
Joy is trying to buck Armor off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Joy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

A chopping leg kick lands by Joy.
Joy throws a head kick that Armor semi-blocks.
Joy thumps Armor with a low kick.
Armor feints a jab promting Joy to slip. Armor then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Joy slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Joy digs a good body shot into Armor 's ribs.

Armor moves into the clinch.

Armor 's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Armor throws a nice looking combination but Joy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Joy throws a fast counter high kick but Armor manages to duck under it in time.

Joy goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Joy circles away from the clinch attempt.

Joy throws a head kick that misses.
Joy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Joy lands a head kick. Armor smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Armor gets the takedown into side control.
Armor scores with punches from side control.

Armor tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Armor working the strikes but Joy uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Joy won't allow Armor to pass to mount.
Armor throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Armor takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Joy wants to get back to full guard.
Joy is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Armor 's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Armor 's back!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Armor tries to break free.

Armor trying to control the position but Joy manages to sink in the hooks.

Joy is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Armor knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Armor for a finish.

Armor won't enjoy being in this position. Joy looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Armor is tapping - it's over boys! Joy picks up the submission victory!
