Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alejandro Contreras (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julius Octavius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Contreras's entrance music is Gidafilia Kaliente. A fine choice. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alejandro Contreras!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Julius Octavius!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Contreras blocks a head kick by Octavius.
Octavius throws a sloppy head kick and Contreras moves out of range easily.
Contreras has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Turka Elite Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Julius Octavius seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Contreras connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Octavius is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Octavius moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Octavius looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Contreras counters with a nice uppercut.

Octavius throws out a leg kick but Contreras moves out of range and Octavius only half commits.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Contreras, as that shot connected.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Contreras lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Octavius misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
As Octavius tries to get set, Contreras tries to push him back and clinch up but Octavius manages to avoid the attempt.

Contreras throws a looping overhand right but Octavius ducks down to avoid it.
Octavius feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Contreras's calf.
Octavius throws a head kick that misses
and Contreras counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Contreras throws a big shot that misses.
Octavius cracks the inside of Contreras's front leg.
Contreras stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Contreras throws a right hand that Octavius ducks under and follows up with a left that Octavius also avoids with ease.
Horrible takedown attempt by Octavius or perhaps it was just good defense by Contreras, which made it look bad.

Octavius throws a solid leg kick but Contreras takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Octavius.
Contreras lands with a straight right. Octavius didn't see that one coming.

Contreras cracks Octavius with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Contreras scores with a sloppy right hand. Octavius should have avoided that one.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Octavius throws a leg kick but Contreras sees it coming and moves out of range.
Contreras stalks Octavius and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Octavius's face. Octavius staggers backwards, shaken.
Octavius goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Contreras has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Octavius.
Octavius throws a solid leg kick but Contreras takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Octavius.
A big right from Contreras misses.
Octavius was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Contreras throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Contreras connects with a single shot there.
Contreras checks a low kick from Octavius.
A telegraphed right hand from Contreras misses the target.

Octavius closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Octavius lands in his opponent's guard.

Octavius is looking to work some ground and pound but Contreras has wrist control.
Octavius has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Octavius stands up over Contreras, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Octavius drops back looking for a leg! Contreras is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Contreras manages to kick Octavius off! Octavius jumps back into Contreras's guard.
Contreras is trying to control the position but Octavius postures up.
Octavius working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Contreras pulls Octavius in to control the position.
Contreras might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Contreras has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Octavius postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Octavius throws a leg kick
and Contreras counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
A slow jab from Contreras misses its intended target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Contreras is looking to clinch.
Contreras throws a shot from downtown. Octavius moves away and avoids it.
Octavius throws a leg kick but Contreras sees it coming and moves out of range.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Octavius manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Contreras manages to get himself to full guard.

Contreras knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Octavius on the ground.

Contreras on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Contreras tries to get out of the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Octavius wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.

Octavius swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Contreras is now in Octavius's guard. A big mistake from Octavius there, giving up the dominant position!

Octavius has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Contreras can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Contreras has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Octavius controls Contreras momentarily but Contreras frees himself.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Julius Octavius showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Contreras sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Octavius tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Contreras is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Octavius shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Contreras napping and manages to drive through into side control!
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Octavius working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Contreras wants to control but Octavius is keeping busy.

Octavius is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Contreras is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Contreras is looking for a sweep.

Octavius thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

I think Octavius has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
