Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Buford Schultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karma Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buford Schultz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Buford Schultz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Karma Thompson!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Daniel Blasius and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Schultz enables Thompson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Schultz manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Schultz is trying to control the position but Thompson postures up.
Schultz pulls Thompson in close to his closed guard and prevents Thompson from doing any damage or advancing position.
Schultz keeping moving, preventing Thompson from controlling successfully.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schultz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thompson wants to get up but he can't break Schultz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Thompson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Schultz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Thompson has Schultz up against the cage in a clinch.
Schultz tries to pull guard but Thompson forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Schultz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A low kick from Thompson is predictable there

and Schultz counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Schultz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Schultz is looking to take a break and control but Thompson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Thompson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Schultz to the mat! Schultz manages to get full guard.

Schultz thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Schultz wants to stand and escape but Thompson is having none of it.
Schultz could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Thompson throws a big right hand that misses.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Thompson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Schultz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Thompson is controlling him.
Schultz has a closed guard, preventing Thompson from standing up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Thompson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Schultz looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Schultz looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Schultz!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Buford Schultz will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Schultz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Thompson manages to get himself to full guard.

Buford Schultz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Schultz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Thompson is controlling Schultz's posture.

Thompson wants to hit a switch here but Schultz passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Thompson there!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Schultz jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Thompson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Thompson and Schultz has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Thompson is looking to control Schultz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Thompson avoid being mounted?

Thompson is looking for a sweep. Schultz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Thompson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Schultz is working away from the top position though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Thompson throws a head kick but Schultz moves out of range.
Schultz wants to clinch
and Thompson counters with a one-two to the body.

Thompson has clasped his hands together around Schultz's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Schultz is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Thompson has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Thompson swings around for an armbar but Schultz sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Thompson's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thompson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Karma Thompson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Schultz pushes off an throws an elbow but Thompson leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Schultz tries to land a knee to the head but Thompson blocks with his arms.

Thompson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Schultz tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Thompson is in Schultz's guard.

Schultz is working an open guard so Thompson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Thompson clinches up with Schultz and pushes him back against the cage.

Schultz breaks from the clinch.

Thompson is trying to break the clinch but Schultz is controlling him.
Schultz misses with a knee to the head.
A frustrated look appears on Schultz's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Thompson is trying to trip Schultz. He has hold of a leg but Schultz is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Thompson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Schultz controls Thompson momentarily but Thompson frees himself.
Thompson wants to get up but he can't break Schultz's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Schultz has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Thompson is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Schultz using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Thompson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Schultz pushes off an throws an elbow but Thompson leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Schultz tries to pull guard but Thompson holds him up against the cage and eventually Schultz drops back down to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Still in the clinch, Schultz scores with a nice short uppercut.

Thompson has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Schultz uses from the top position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Buford Schultz.
I think Schultz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
