PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hugh MacKay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juilius Caesar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hugh MacKay has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hugh MacKay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juilius Caesar!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caesar tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but MacKay paws at him with a jab and circles away.
MacKay shoots in looking for a takedown. Caesar tries to sprawl out of it but MacKay keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Caesar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck for MacKay with that takedown attempt.

Caesar drives through with a takedown into guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Caesar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Caesar got a little sloppy there for a moment and MacKay has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Caesar has managed to get both his arms back between MacKay's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Caesar trying to control but MacKay is working from the bottom.

MacKay looking for a guillotine here but Caesar defends easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Caesar drops back looking for a leg! MacKay is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and MacKay manages to kick Caesar off! Caesar jumps back into MacKay's guard.
Caesar wants to control from the top but MacKay keeps moving.
Caesar content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Caesar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
MacKay looking to hit a scissor sweep but Caesar is one step ahead there.

MacKay working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Caesar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Caesar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Caesar with a nice head shot there.
MacKay wants to sweep here but Caesar controlling him for the moment.
Caesar is looking to stand up but MacKay won't let him.
MacKay looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Caesar wanted to stand there but MacKay had control of the position.
Caesar content to stall in guard here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Caesar passes MacKay's left leg - he's now in half guard.
MacKay is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Caesar scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
MacKay wants to get back to full guard.
MacKay is pressing down on Caesar's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Caesar stays in close to MacKay's body and controls the position.
MacKay throws a couple of heel strikes.

MacKay looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
MacKay can't keep his opponent in guard - Caesar advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Caesar seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

MacKay is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Caesar pulls his head out easily.
Caesar tries to stand but can't do so whilst MacKay controls his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Caesar working over MacKay with some ground and pound. MacKay looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Caesar is looking to take a break and control but MacKay is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

MacKay is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Caesar pulls his head out easily.
Caesar is keen to just control but MacKay is a slippery customer.

Caesar is sneakily working for an arm triangle but MacKay sees it coming and defends easily.
MacKay is trying to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Caesar is keen to just control but MacKay is a slippery customer.
Caesar landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Caesar is trying to control the action in half guard but MacKay is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juilius Caesar dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



MacKay gets caught flat footed, as Caesar shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Caesar stopping the sweep attempt from MacKay.
Caesar wants to control from the top but MacKay keeps moving.
Caesar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
MacKay tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Caesar is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.


MacKay is rocked!
Caesar loads up on a big left hand. MacKay felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Caesar looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! MacKay can't hide his disappointment, as Caesar celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Juilius Caesar!
A very excited looking Juilius Caesar made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
