PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sean Avery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saif Rasheed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Avery might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Godspeed - Throwdown. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Avery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Saif Rasheed!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rasheed looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Avery!
Rasheed tries to score with some ground and pound. Avery controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rasheed is trying to ground and pound but Avery uses the momentary lack of control by Rasheed to regain half guard.
Avery is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rasheed's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rasheed's back!
Avery lands a shot to the body.

Rasheed tries to break free.
Rasheed has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rasheed tries to escape but Avery has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Avery is looking to control Rasheed but Rasheed is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Rasheed manages to reverse the position and now he's in Avery's guard. Nice work there by Rasheed.

Avery seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Rasheed cracks Avery with a solid left hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rasheed accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Avery is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Rasheed chips away with some ground and pound.

Avery is pulling down on Rasheed's head to control his posture.

Rasheed is looking to work some ground and pound but Avery has wrist control.
Avery has Rasheed pulled in close to control his posture.
Avery is trying to control the position but Rasheed postures up.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Avery throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Rasheed escapes and throws Avery's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Avery sneaks back into half guard.
Rasheed is looking to advance position but Avery won't allow it.
Rasheed throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rasheed misses with a head shot. Avery uses the momentum to regain guard.
Avery looking to control.

Rasheed missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Rasheed with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Rasheed postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Avery is adopting a defensive guard.
Rasheed wants to control from the top but Avery keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rasheed misses with a takedown attempt
and Avery counters with a straight right hand.
Avery stuffs the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saif Rasheed dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Rasheed closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Avery's guard.

Rasheed drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Avery manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rasheed has Avery in his guard.


Rasheed working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Avery doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Avery manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rasheed has his foot on Avery's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Avery works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rasheed wants to improve his position but Avery is controlling well.
Avery sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Rasheed defending well though.

Avery knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rasheed on the ground.
Rasheed is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Avery trying to control the action but Rasheed is working from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Rasheed shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Avery defends it nicely.
Avery misses with a body shot.
Avery feints and then cracks Rasheed's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Rasheed down.
Avery's corner calls for a 1-2. Avery obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Avery stuffs the takedown.
Avery was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Avery lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Sean Avery has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Saif Rasheed.
Avery thuds a left hand into Rasheed's body.
Avery cracks the inside of Rasheed's front leg.
Avery scores with a hook.
Rasheed misses with a takedown
and Avery makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Rasheed is breathing heavily.
Avery fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rasheed.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rasheed takes one on the button.


Rasheed is rocked!
and Avery counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Rasheed! He's just covering up as Avery starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sean Avery!
After winning the bout, Sean Avery thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
