PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mohammad Malik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mackey Shain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malik comes to the ring accompanied by Stronger. Mackey Shain will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mohammad Malik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mackey Shain!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and Bruno Hogan.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shain changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Malik tries to avoid it but Shain manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Malik to the ground. Malik escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Shain looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Malik manages to get to full guard.

Shain has gone for a leg lock! Malik slips out almost immediately though and dives into Shain's guard.

Malik is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Malik wants to pass the guard but Shain is keeping the position.
Shain controls Malik momentarily but Malik frees himself.
Shain looking for a sweep. Not yet Shain, not yet.

Shain is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Malik trying to control but Shain is working from the bottom.

Shain keeping moving, preventing Malik from controlling successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Shain shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Malik pinned against the cage. Malik gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Shain tries for a takedown but Malik sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mohammad Malik has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mackey Shain.
Shain looks gassed!
Shain fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Shain moves in looking to clinch but Malik pushes him off.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Shain gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Malik passes Shain's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Shain is not content to let Malik control the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shain wants to get back to full guard but Malik has mounted him!
Malik pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Malik is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Shain has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Shain sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Malik is pressing down on Shain's thigh, looking to free his foot. Shain is holding on for now.
Malik blocks the strikes from Shain.
Malik is trying to control the action in half guard but Shain is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shain is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Malik is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Malik prevents Shain from improving his position.

Malik seems to be looking for submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Shain shoots in and bounces Malik off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.

Shain drops back looking for a leg! Malik is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Malik manages to kick Shain off! Shain jumps back into Malik's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mackey Shain will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Shain has his takedown stuffed

and Malik decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Shain's guard.
Malik passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Shain tries to bench press Malik off him but Malik keeps the position.
Shain is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Shain trying his best to control but Malik has mounted him.
Shain is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Shain is squirming around, avoiding Malik's attempts to control the action.
Shain is looking to get to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Malik is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Shain can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Malik wants to work for an arm triangle but Shain is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Malik stands and throws Shain's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Malik trying to control the position but Shain is working away.
Shain sneaks back into half guard.

Malik is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shain is just riding it out for now. Malik eventually gives up the hold.

Shain flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Malik could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Shain wants to improve his position but Malik is controlling well.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Shain makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Shain.
Shain manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Malik wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Shain.
Malik might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Malik is trying desperately to improve position.

Shain working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Malik turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Shain off and cradles Malik's limp body as Shain celebrates with his corner.
