PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sanford Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vin Diesel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Sanford Nelson has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Sanford Nelson seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Sanford Nelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Vin Diesel!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diesel moves into range and clinches up with Nelson.

Diesel decides to pull guard.
Nelson sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Nelson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nelson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Diesel for as long as he can get away with.
Nelson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diesel trying to control the position.
Nelson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diesel not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nelson dives in for a single leg takedown but Diesel sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Nelson gets caught flat footed, as Diesel shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Diesel throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Nelson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Diesel trying to control but Nelson is working from the bottom.
Diesel keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Nelson's head.
Diesel won't allow Nelson to sweep him here.
Diesel seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nelson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Nelson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Diesel's guard.

Diesel looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nelson is one step ahead there.

Nelson wants to control from the top but Diesel keeps moving.
Diesel is looking to stand back up but Nelson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Diesel.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Diesel actively working from the bottom here.
Diesel is trying to stand up here but Nelson is controlling him well.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Diesel is looking to control Nelson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Diesel avoid being mounted?

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vin Diesel dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Diesel thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Nelson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Diesel is one step ahead there.

Nelson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Diesel defends it easily.
Nelson wants to sweep but no luck.
Diesel has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Diesel keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Nelson's head.

Diesel trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Diesel gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Diesel shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nelson as he jumps to the side.
Diesel goes for a double leg but Nelson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nelson continues to drive forward.
Diesel tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nelson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Diesel somewhat.
Sanford Nelson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vin Diesel.

Diesel shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nelson sprawls well. Nelson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Diesel gets slowly back to his feet.
Diesel shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Nelson defends it nicely.
Vin Diesel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diesel tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Nelson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Diesel closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Nelson did well to prevent Diesel getting side control.

Nelson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Nelson is looking to escape.
Nelson is staying active underneath Diesel, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Nelson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Diesel's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Diesel's back!

Nelson is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson is not going to allow Diesel to sit and survive in this position.
Nelson has the hooks in. Diesel is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Nelson is looking to control Diesel but Diesel is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Diesel is having to fend off submission attempts from Nelson, who is looking to sink in the choke. Nelson doesn't have the hooks in though and Diesel manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Nelson is looking to stand up but Diesel isn't so interested in that idea.

Vin Diesel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Diesel is looking to take a break and control but Nelson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Nelson has his foot on Diesel's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Diesel works his way back into a safe position though.

Diesel drops back looking for a leg! Nelson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nelson manages to kick Diesel off! Diesel jumps back into Nelson's guard.

Diesel decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Diesel is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Diesel drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Diesel jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Vin Diesel is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Vin Diesel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Diesel winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
