PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Nieves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamal Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Oliver Nieves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jamal Lewis!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nieves looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Lewis closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Nieves won't allow Lewis to pass to mount.
Nieves wants to get back to his feet.
Lewis is looking to advance position but Nieves won't allow it.
Lewis performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lewis thows a huge punch but Nieves dodges it nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lewis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Lewis wants to free his trapped foot but Nieves is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Lewis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Nieves is just riding it out for now. Lewis eventually gives up the hold.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nieves shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lewis but Lewis pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Lewis drives through with a takedown into Nieves's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Nieves working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lewis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lewis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Lewis trying to control the position from guard on top but Nieves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lewis wants to stand but Nieves is controlling his posture from full guard.

Lewis with a flurry of punches that miss.
Nieves looking to control.

Lewis drops back looking for a leg! Nieves is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Nieves manages to kick Lewis off! Lewis jumps back into Nieves's guard.

Lewis stands and steps away. Nieves gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Nieves shoots in and drives through. Lewis sprawls well.
Lewis lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oliver Nieves. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lewis lands a jab to Nieves's midsection.
Nieves really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lewis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nieves's guard.
Lewis engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Lewis wants to pass the guard but Nieves is keeping the position.
Lewis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Nieves is proving hard to escape from.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lewis looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lewis drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Nieves dives on top into guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jamal Lewis dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Nieves avoids a kick to the body.
Lewis just misses with a punch to the body.
Lewis throws a head kick that misses.
Nieves fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Nieves looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Nieves controlling the action here.
Lewis regains full guard. Nicely done.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nieves with a nice head shot there.
Lewis avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Lewis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lewis has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Nieves should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Lewis has tightened it up now! Nieves should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
