PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Damo Hughs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Puetz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bob Puetz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughs wants to clinch but Puetz slips to the side

and Puetz counters with a shoot takedown. Hughs fights it but they end up in guard.
Puetz trying to control but Hughs is working from the bottom.
Hughs wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Puetz is now in half guard.
Puetz is nestled in close to Hughs, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Puetz works his way into side control.
Puetz lands a few punches from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Puetz tries for a kimura but Hughs is defending well.
Puetz tries to move to mount but Hughs blocks the move with his legs.

Hughs is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Puetz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Puetz gets to mount! Hughs was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

The referee warns Hughs that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
