PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jon Armor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Weber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weber has chosen Kanye West-Only One as his entrance music. The key to victory for Jon Armor has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Armor !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Weber!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Russell Pearce and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armor shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Armor was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Armor trying to control the position but Weber is working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Armor postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Armor tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Weber is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Armor really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Armor will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Armor is looking to take a break and control but Weber is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Weber is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Armor has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Armor stands up and beckons Weber to his feet.

Armor tries to clinch but Weber moves out of range.
Weber scores with a jab. Armor acknowledges it with a nod of the head.


It looks like Jon Armor has been cut.
Weber tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Armor paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Weber closes the distance and clinches up with Armor , looking for a takedown. Weber pushes Armor against the cage but Armor circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Weber looks winded!
Armor getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Armor swats away the attempt to clinch by Weber.
Weber stuffs the takedown attempt from Armor . Armor gets slowly back to his feet.
Weber throws a lazy uppercut

and Armor counters by clinching up.

Weber shoots in but no luck this time.
Armor lands a nice looking kick to the body. Weber takes a step back to recover.

and Armor counters with a left and a right that stings Weber.
Jon Armor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Weber.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Weber walks forward, straight into a front kick from Armor .

Armor moves into the clinch.

Jack Weber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Armor looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Armor shoots in for a takedown but Weber shows good takedown defense.
Weber throws a jab but it's blocked by Armor .
Weber shoots in looking for a takedown. Armor tries to sprawl out of it but Weber keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Armor manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Weber clinches up with Armor and pushes him back against the cage.

Weber content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Weber has eaten all the pies!
Armor wants to stand up but Weber is controlling him.
Weber is in close to Armor 's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Weber throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Armor controls Weber momentarily but Weber frees himself.

Armor looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Armor has momentary wrist control but Weber slips an elbow through the middle.
Weber postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Weber connects with a couple of short punches.

Armor wants to sweep here but Weber controlling him for the moment.
Weber lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

I was talking to Armor 's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Weber is looking to control Armor 's arms but Armor gets an underhook and turns him. Now Weber has his back to the cage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Armor uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Weber.

The fighters circling - Weber throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Horrible takedown attempt by Weber or perhaps it was just good defense by Armor , which made it look bad.
Weber swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and Armor counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Armor stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Armor wants it to stay on the feet.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jon Armor will probably get the nod.

Weber rushes Armor and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Armor misses with a head kick.

Armor on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Weber fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Armor , pushing him back against the cage.

Armor gets underhooks to prevent Weber's takedown attempt.
Weber has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Armor is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Armor turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Armor manages to end up in side control.

Weber is looking to get back to his feet here but Armor is keeping cool and he's managed to take Weber's back.

Weber is trying to remain composed but Armor is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Armor is persistently looking for the submission but Weber is defending it well.
Weber has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Armor lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Armor is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Weber defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Armor is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Weber is defending well though. Armor let's go of the attempt for now.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Weber is trying to get back to his feet but Armor has full control of the position and if anything, Weber has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Weber is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
The referee is taking a good look at Weber as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Armor !

Well Armor has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
