And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Hill!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez fails in his attempt to clinch.

Sanchez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hill with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Hill escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sanchez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sanchez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hill looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hill looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hill!

Sanchez manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Hill jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Sanchez manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sanchez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hill knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Sanchez goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Hill has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Sanchez but great work by Hill.

Hill cracks Sanchez with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Hill jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Sanchez is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Sanchez and Hill has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

That was a close second round but I would say that Willy Sanchez will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Sanchez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hill sprawls well initially but Sanchez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Willy Sanchez.
Well Sanchez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
