Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michael Kovacs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Omar Barksdale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Omar Barksdale will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Kovacs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Omar Barksdale!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Lou da Vinci and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barksdale avoids the head kick by Kovacs.
Barksdale avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kovacs gets caught flat footed, as Barksdale shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Barksdale content to stall in guard here.

Kovacs has his foot on Barksdale's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Barksdale works his way back into a safe position though.
Barksdale stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kovacs swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kovacs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Barksdale doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Barksdale manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Barksdale has gone for a leg lock! Kovacs slips out almost immediately though and dives into Barksdale's guard.

Barksdale has hold of Kovacs's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kovacs manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Barksdale manages to reverse the position and now he's in Kovacs's guard. Nice work there by Barksdale.

Kovacs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Barksdale gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kovacs ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kovacs wants to clinch up but Barksdale keeps it at a distance.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barksdale throws a sloppy head kick and Kovacs moves out of range easily.

Barksdale feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kovacs has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Barksdale can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kovacs throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Barksdale escapes and throws Kovacs's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Barksdale thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Kovacs in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Barksdale tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Kovacs!
