PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeffrey Roth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corey Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeffrey Roth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Corey Anderson!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Dean Styles and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anderson instigates a clinch.
Roth wants to break the clinch but can't.
A left hand lands to the body for Anderson.
Roth looking to stall.
Roth jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Anderson walks away with a smile on his face. Roth gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Roth tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Roth fails in his attempt to clinch.

Anderson gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Anderson stops a takedown attempt from Roth.

Anderson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Roth could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Anderson misses with the combination.
Roth half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Roth sprawls well. Roth wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Anderson gets slowly back to his feet.
Roth shoots in looking for a takedown. Anderson tries to sprawl out of it but Roth keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Anderson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeffrey Roth. That's going to take a lot out of him.

No joy there for Anderson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Anderson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Roth fails with an attempt to clinch.

Anderson clinches up with Roth and pushes him back against the cage.
Roth is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Roth is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Anderson tries for a takedown. No joy.
Roth can't get the takedown.
Roth is trying to pull guard but Anderson has him pressed against the cage.
Anderson prevents a takedown attempt there.
Roth wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Roth is breathing heavily.

Anderson wants a takedown but no success here.

Anderson pulls guard successfully.

Anderson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Roth defends well.
Anderson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Roth.

Anderson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Roth gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anderson tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Anderson working for submissions but it's allowed Roth to get to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Anderson is controlling Roth's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Roth is trying to work for a kimura but Anderson is defending well.
Roth throws a strike but Anderson avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Anderson looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Anderson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Roth is aware though and is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Anderson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Anderson looking for a guillotine here but Roth defends easily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Corey Anderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Anderson moves into the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Roth gets control of Anderson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Roth will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Anderson postures up.
Anderson sitting in guard, not really doing much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Corey Anderson dominated that round.
That's time! Roth's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Anderson stalks Roth and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Roth's face. Roth staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Jeffrey Roth has been cut.

Anderson clinches with his opponent.
Roth tries to pull guard but Anderson won't allow it.
Roth is looking for a takedown.
Roth wants a takedown but no success here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeffrey Roth. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Anderson manages to break the clinch.
Anderson scores with a hook.
Anderson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anderson misses with a few strikes there.

Roth tries to keep at a distance but Anderson has taken the fight into the clinch.
Anderson stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Anderson prevents Roth from breaking the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roth is pressed up against the cage. Anderson has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Roth down to the mat. Roth avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Anderson misses with a few strikes there.
Anderson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


Roth is rocked!
Corey Anderson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Anderson grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! Roth takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Anderson cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Corey Anderson!
A very excited looking Corey Anderson rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
