PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Bull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Sharpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jack Bull has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jack Bull seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Bull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, David Sharpe!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Bull with that takedown attempt.
Sharpe looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Sharpe avoids a kick to the body.
Bull throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sharpe's waist but Sharpe gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bull off to one side.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bull is defended easily by Sharpe.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Bull. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bull misses the shot to the body.
Bull throws a head kick but Sharpe moves out of range.
Bull looking to land some kicks to the body here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sharpe works over Bull's head and body with a nice combination.
Bull tries to clinch up.

Bull darts in and clinches Sharpe up against the cage.
Sharpe is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Sharpe jumps into guard, dragging Bull to the mat.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bull accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bull trying to control but Sharpe is working from the bottom.

Sharpe wants to get back to his feet but Bull is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bull wants to stand and escape but instead Sharpe has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Bull pulls Sharpe in close to his closed guard and prevents Sharpe from doing any damage or advancing position.
Bull tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Sharpe decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Bull, up you get!

Bull forces Sharpe back against the cage and clinches.
Bull lands a good knee to the midsection. Sharpe won't want to take too many of those.
Bull effectively controlling the action here.

Bull manages to break the clinch.
Sharpe has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Bull is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Bull has taken the fight to the clinch.
Bull misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Sharpe.
Sharpe is looking to break free of the clinch but Bull has double underhooks.
Sharpe blocks a body shot from Bull.
The referee is keeping an eye on Bull - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Sharpe wants to stall.
With the fighters up against the cage, Sharpe throws an elbow but misses.
Sharpe wants to break free but Bull has control.
Bull tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sharpe just stands there and leans against the cage.

Sharpe looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Sharpe breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Bull connects with an inside leg kick.
Bull looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Sharpe ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Sharpe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sharpe wants it to stay on the feet.
Sharpe connects with a body shot.
Bull fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bull throws a push kick but Sharpe slaps the foot to one side.
Sharpe is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Bull tries to score with a low kick but Sharpe moves his leg out of the way.
Sharpe tries to counter by closing the distance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sharpe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bull throws a head kick that half lands.
Sharpe swats away the attempt to clinch by Bull.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but David Sharpe will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Bull walks into a stiff left hand from Sharpe.

Bull fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sharpe sprawls well initially but Bull persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bull is looking to take a break and control but Sharpe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Bull is really struggling to control Sharpe but he's trying to hold on to the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bull thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Sharpe moves out of range of the body kick from Bull.
Sharpe misses with a jab, cross combination.
A counter left hand to the body from Bull misses its target.
Sharpe staying out of range there.
Bull lands a nice looking body kick.
Bull tries to clinch there but Sharpe circles away.
Bull goes for a double leg but Sharpe avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sharpe continues to drive forward.

Bull shoots in for a double leg but Sharpe sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Bull scores with a kick to the body.

Bull has closed the distance and engaged Sharpe in a clinch.
Bull tries a body shot but Sharpe blocks it.
Sharpe tries to circle away but Bull has him pinned against the cage.
Bull keeps control of Sharpe as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Sharpe prevents a takedown attempt there.

Bull breaks the clinch.
Bull shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sharpe sprawls well. Sharpe wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bull gets slowly back to his feet.

Sharpe has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Bull.
Sharpe tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sharpe enables Bull to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sharpe manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Bull gets to his feet. Sharpe looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Bull fakes the leg kick and cracks Sharpe in the body.
Bull shoots in and drives through. Sharpe sprawls well.
And Sharpe tries to counter it with a takedown but Bull pushes his down on his head and steps out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Bull.

Sharpe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bull shoots for a takedown but Sharpe saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sharpe lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Bull drives through with a takedown into guard.

Bull drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sharpe looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sharpe looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sharpe!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bull is trying to get back to his feet.
Bull tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sharpe wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Bull dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Sharpe scores with a jab.
Sharpe tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bull shoots in but no luck this time.

Sharpe gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Bull wants to control from the top but Sharpe keeps moving.
Bull tries to free his leg and advance position but Sharpe is retaining full guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bull working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Jack Bull overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bull pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sharpe is keeping the position for now.
Bull trying to control the position from guard on top but Sharpe is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Bull is in close to Sharpe's body, working some short punches and elbows.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bull is defended easily by Sharpe.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Bull closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sharpe to the mat! Sharpe manages to get full guard.
Bull advances to half guard.
Sharpe is not content to let Bull control the position.
Bull sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sharpe defending well though.

Sharpe wants to get back to full guard but Bull has mounted him!

Bull looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Bull trying to control but Sharpe is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bull working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Sharpe tries to lock up and control but Bull gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Bull content just to control the position here.
Sharpe is squirming around, avoiding Bull's attempts to control the action.
Sharpe has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bull is looking to control Sharpe but Sharpe is wriggling around and keeping busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Bull showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Bull has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
