Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dave Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Smith's choice of entrance music: Crazy Train. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dave Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Peter Smith!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Taro Takaoka and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Johnson, right into the meat.
Johnson scores with a head kick.
A bone on bone clash there as Johnson blocks the leg kick.
Johnson seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Smith misses with a body shot.
Johnson looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Johnson lands a nice looking kick to the body. Smith takes a step back to recover.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Smith has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Smith has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Johnson is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Smith.

Smith is looking for a kimura but Johnson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage.

Good leg kick by Johnson there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Johnson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

A looping hook to the body misses from Johnson. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Johnson.
Johnson throws a push kick but Smith slaps the foot to one side.

As Smith backs away, Johnson returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Smith throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Some bone on bone action there as Smith checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Johnson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Smith stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Smith paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Smith takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Johnson moves out of range as Smith throws a body kick.
Smith throws a push kick but Johnson slaps the foot to one side.
Johnson throws a sloppy head kick and Smith moves out of range easily.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
Smith tests Johnson's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Smith gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Johnson throws a solid leg kick but Smith takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Johnson.

Smith takes a swing at Johnson's ribcage but misses.
Smith jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Johnson to the ground. Smith is now in Johnson's guard.
Smith stands and throws Johnson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Johnson is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it.
Smith wants to control but Johnson is keeping him busy.
Johnson is looking to reverse the position.

Smith working the ground and pound but Johnson is defending the strikes.
Smith sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Johnson is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Johnson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Smith in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Smith is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
