Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dion Slater (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deni Mukhtar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Mukhtar's choice of entrance music: Goyang Dumang. Deni Mukhtar looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dion Slater!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Deni Mukhtar!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Slater moves into the clinch.
Slater misses with a hook from the clinch.

Slater breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mukhtar lands with a good body shot.

Slater instigates a clinch.

Slater breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Slater moves into range and clinches up with Mukhtar.
Slater is looking to break free of the clinch but Mukhtar has double underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Come on Mukhtar - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Mukhtar throws a punch but it's blocked by Slater.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slater wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mukhtar has him pressed against the cage.

Slater breaks from the clinch.
Slater could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mukhtar scores with a jab to the head.
Slater on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Mukhtar throws a solid leg kick but Slater takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Mukhtar.
Deni Mukhtar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Slater throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mukhtar was covering up waiting for the punch and Slater finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Slater is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Slater is looking to work some ground and pound but Mukhtar has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slater sitting in guard here, content to control.
Mukhtar wants to stand but Slater is controlling the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Mukhtar is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Slater drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mukhtar looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mukhtar looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mukhtar!

Mukhtar sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Slater is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Slater might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
You can see the frustration on Slater's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mukhtar creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Slater sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Mukhtar tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Slater struggling a bit here.
Slater is not content to let Mukhtar control the position.
Mukhtar looks winded!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slater is looking to reverse the position.
Slater gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Slater moves into full guard.
Mukhtar is looking to work some ground and pound but Slater has wrist control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mukhtar postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Slater pulls Mukhtar in to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dion Slater will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Slater has managed to clinch.
Mukhtar looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Mukhtar lands a left hand that snaps the head of Slater backwards.
Slater fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Slater breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The crowd cheers as Mukhtar lands an impressive looking overhand right. Slater doesn't seem phased though.
Slater looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mukhtar is fending him off so far but Slater persists. Nope, Mukhtar circles away and we're back to standing.
It seemed like Mukhtar was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slater takes the fight into the clinch.
Slater wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mukhtar has had enough of the clinch but Slater keeps him there for the moment.

Mukhtar drags the fight down to the ground.
Slater slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mukhtar is breathing heavily.

Mukhtar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nice defenses there by Slater.

Slater shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Slater was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Dion Slater overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Slater wants to control but Mukhtar is keeping him busy.

Mukhtar is not content to let Slater control the position.

Mukhtar seems a little lost for a moment, as Slater dominates the positioning.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Mukhtar tries to keep at a distance but Slater has taken the fight into the clinch.

Slater breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Slater lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dion Slater dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Mukhtar throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Mukhtar pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Slater lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Mukhtar throws the left hand but Slater avoids the punch easily.

A lazy left from Mukhtar finds it's target.

and Slater counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Mukhtar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slater throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Slater thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Mukhtar can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Slater controls the pace.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Slater has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Slater closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mukhtar circles away.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Mukhtar, as that shot connected.

Mukhtar gets tackled into the cage by Slater. Slater maintains the clinch.

Slater breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A bone on bone clash there as Slater blocks the leg kick.
Slater fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Mukhtar counters with a body kick.

Slater moves into the clinch successfully.

Slater successfully pulls guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Slater manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mukhtar manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Slater drops back looking for a leg! Mukhtar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mukhtar manages to kick Slater off! Slater jumps back into Mukhtar's guard.
Slater seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dion Slater showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Slater, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
