PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeffrey Roth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Jones's choice of entrance music: GDFR-Flo Rida. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeffrey Roth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roth instigates a clinch.

Roth decides to pull guard.
Roth is adopting a defensive guard.

Jones drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jones jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Roth bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jones's guard.


Jones is working an open guard so Roth takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Roth. No joy for Jones on that attempt.
Jones scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


It looks like Jeffrey Roth has been cut.
A decent looking cross lands there for Jones.
Roth tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Roth somewhat.

Roth shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Roth showed some decent athleticism there.

Jones looks like he's trying to stand up.

Roth looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Roth stands up and beckons Jones to join him on the feet.
Jon Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Roth closes the distance and clinches.

Roth bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jones is looking for a sweep.
Jones is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Jones is looking to regain half guard here but Roth keeps moving and retains side control.

Roth stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Jones throws a combination that misses

and Roth counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Roth is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jones to keep the fight standing.
Jones tries to break free but Roth pushes him back against the cage.

Jones gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Roth.

Roth gets control of Jones's arms and successfully pulls guard. Roth will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Roth. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Roth is controlling Jones's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roth's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones postures up in Roth's guard and throws a big left but Roth blocks it.
Roth is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jones can do to turn this around?

Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Oh Roth is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jones cracks Roth with a solid left hand.
Jones postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Roth covers up, he's hurt! Jones keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Jones and the ref steps in to end the fight! Jones can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jon Jones!
Jon Jones got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
