PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Demarcus Padilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Garus Vikarian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Demarcus Padilla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Garus Vikarian!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vikarian throws a nice looking combination but Padilla bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Padilla wants to clinch up but Vikarian keeps it at a distance.
Padilla really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Padilla feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Padilla has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Padilla postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Vikarian is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Padilla, into his guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vikarian wants to pass the guard but Padilla is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vikarian has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Padilla is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vikarian postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Vikarian pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Padilla is keeping the position for now.
Vikarian is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Vikarian is looking to stand up but Padilla won't let him.
Padilla is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Padilla looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Vikarian stands and throws Padilla's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Vikarian wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Padilla, who protects the arm well.

Vikarian is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Padilla has escaped the position, nice work there.
Vikarian misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Padilla is trying to improve his position.
Padilla knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Vikarian on the ground.
The strikes coming from Vikarian are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Padilla prevents Vikarian from moving into mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Padilla is looking to regain half guard here but Vikarian keeps moving and retains side control.
Vikarian is chipping away with strikes.
Padilla is looking to reverse the position.

Vikarian decides to stand back up. Vikarian steps back and let's Padilla get back to his feet.

Padilla gets tackled into the cage by Vikarian. Vikarian maintains the clinch.
Vikarian goes for a takedown attempt but Padilla pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Padilla closes this distance looking for a takedown but Vikarian circles away.
Padilla is breathing heavily.
Vikarian swats away the attempt to clinch by Padilla.
Vikarian is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Padilla with a body shot.
Vikarian throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Padilla gets tackled into the cage by Vikarian. Vikarian maintains the clinch.
Vikarian stalling in the clinch.
Padilla keeps control of Vikarian as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Vikarian breaks the clinch.

Vikarian drives through and clinches with Padilla against the cage.
Vikarian drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Padilla gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Padilla pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Padilla fails to land the takedown.
Vikarian looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Garus Vikarian dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Vikarian tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Padilla closes this distance looking for a takedown but Vikarian circles away.
Padilla tries to clinch there but Vikarian circles away.
Vikarian looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Padilla is fending him off so far but Vikarian persists. Nope, Padilla circles away and we're back to standing.

Vikarian looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Vikarian is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Padilla works his way to full guard. Good work.
Vikarian throws a big elbow that misses.
Vikarian has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Padilla is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vikarian showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Vikarian passes into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Vikarian seems to be working for a kimura but Padilla defends the submission attempt.
Vikarian seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Padilla does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vikarian in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Padilla tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Vikarian!
