PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Kavanagh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BG Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Kavanagh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, BG Lee!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee stuffs the takedown.
Kavanagh tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Horrible takedown by Kavanagh or perhaps it was just good defense by Lee which made him look bad.
No luck for Kavanagh with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Kavanagh. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lee misses with a looping right.
Lee lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.


It looks like Daniel Kavanagh has been cut.

Kavanagh shoots in but no luck this time.
Kavanagh closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lee circles away.

Kavanagh ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kavanagh shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lee pinned against the cage. Lee gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Kavanagh shoots in looking for a takedown. Lee tries to sprawl out of it but Kavanagh keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lee manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lee works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Kavanagh misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kavanagh has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Kavanagh there as he acknowledges the shot.
Lee misses with a looping left.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Kavanagh. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Lee lands a glancing blow to the side of Kavanagh's head.
Lee catches Kavanagh with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lee throws an overhand right that lands on Kavanagh's shoulder, as Kavanagh tries to avoid the shot.
Lee stuffs the takedown attempt from Kavanagh. Kavanagh gets slowly back to his feet.
Lee might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Kavanagh closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lee circles away.

Kavanagh slips under a jab.
Kavanagh shoots in for a takedown but Lee shows good takedown defense.

Lee gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kavanagh passes into half guard.
Lee keeping hold of Kavanagh's head, controlling as best he can.
Kavanagh uses his free foot to push down on Lee's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lee.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lee holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Kavanagh tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Lee tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kavanagh has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kavanagh is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Lee has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Lee is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lee is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Lee looks gassed!

Kavanagh jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Lee manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Kavanagh working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Kavanagh works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Kavanagh tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Lee is trying to control Kavanagh's posture but Kavanagh avoids it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kavanagh is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lee knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

BG Lee dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Daniel Kavanagh's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Lee connects with the punch.
Lee throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kavanagh.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lee tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kavanagh wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Lee is not content to let Kavanagh control the position.
Lee gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Kavanagh has hold of Lee's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Lee manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lee is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lee really wants to buck Kavanagh off and get back to his feet.
Lee is squirming around, avoiding Kavanagh's attempts to control the action.
Lee prevents Kavanagh from taking his back.

Kavanagh wants to finish this one by submission but Lee is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Kavanagh.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kavanagh scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Lee to see if he's OK.
Kavanagh advances nicely into full mount.

Kavanagh has control of Lee's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Lee regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Kavanagh is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Kavanagh!
