The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cristiano closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. John did well to prevent Cristiano getting side control.
Cristiano looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
John tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Cristiano manages to move to mount!
Cristiano takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
John wants to control but Cristiano is having none of it.
Cristiano throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for John because Cristiano loaded up on that one.
John tries to get back to half guard but can't.

John is looking to improve his position but Cristiano isn't that keen on the idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cristiano has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
John really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cristiano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
