PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Lloyd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hendo Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Lloyd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hendo Riggs!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Riggs throws a right hand that misses
and Lloyd counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Riggs closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lloyd's guard.
Lloyd looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Riggs got a little sloppy there for a moment and Lloyd has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Riggs has managed to get both his arms back between Lloyd's legs - danger averted.

Lloyd throws a leg kick which misses Riggs's front leg but catches the back leg as Riggs tries to avoid it.
A bone on bone clash there as Riggs blocks the leg kick.
Riggs changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Riggs drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Lloyd defends it well.
Lloyd lands with a good body shot.
Riggs misses with a series of wild punches.
We've been informed that Riggs has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Riggs throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lloyd sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Lloyd was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

The fighters circle momentarily. Lloyd darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.


It looks like Hendo Riggs has been cut.

Lloyd throws a combination. Riggs tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Lloyd.
Riggs tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Lloyd misses with a straight left.
Lloyd tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Riggs is able to avoid easily.
Riggs shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lloyd sprawls well. Lloyd wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Riggs gets slowly back to his feet.

Riggs drives through with a takedown into Lloyd's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Lloyd had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Riggs defends it easily.

Lloyd is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Lloyd has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Riggs is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Lloyd.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that John Lloyd will probably get the nod.

Riggs uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Lloyd has time to react.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Riggs lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Riggs with the counter takedown but Lloyd avoids it easily.

Lloyd leaves Riggs with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That kick from Lloyd tenderised Riggs's leg. Riggs is trying to keep his angry face on.
Lloyd goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Lloyd throws a shot from downtown. Riggs moves away and avoids it.
Lloyd tries to close the distance and clinch but Riggs swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Riggs lands a nice looking kick to the body. Lloyd takes a step back to recover.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lloyd looks to land a left hand but Riggs moved out of range nicely.
Riggs is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Riggs takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Hendo Riggs comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Riggs has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
