Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Derrick Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donny Hammerson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hicks's entrance music is It's Amazing. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hicks takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Hammerson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hicks manages to avoid it.
Hicks keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hicks takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Hammerson is looking to clinch but Hicks is avoiding it.
Hammerson swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Hicks gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Hicks escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hammerson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hammerson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hammerson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hicks has a closed guard, preventing Hammerson from standing up.
Hammerson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Hammerson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hicks paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Hammerson swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hicks.

Hammerson shoots in and bounces Hicks off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
