PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hennan Hoyce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexey Potapenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alexey Potapenko told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Hennan Hoyce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexey Potapenko!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoyce lands a nice looking body kick.
Hoyce throws a left and a right that both miss
and Potapenko counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Potapenko throws a lazy uppercut
and Hoyce counters with a left to the body.
Potapenko circles away from the clinch attempt.
Potapenko swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Hoyce fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hoyce swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Potapenko throws out a counter right but Hoyce avoids it with no problem.
Hoyce throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hoyce lands with a right hand.

Hoyce lands a big head kick that sends Potapenko tumbling to the mat! Hoyce takes a step backwards and waves Potapenko back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Alexey Potapenko has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoyce lands a jab to Potapenko's midsection.
Hennan Hoyce is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hoyce tries to clinch

and Potapenko decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hoyce's guard.
Hoyce looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Potapenko throwing strikes but missing.
Potapenko working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hoyce's head.
Potapenko forces his way into half guard.
Hoyce keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Potapenko missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Potapenko lands a nice short elbow.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hoyce avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Potapenko.
Hoyce tries to roll over but Potapenko keeps him under control.
Potapenko looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hoyce with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Potapenko lands a nice short elbow.
Potapenko throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Hoyce blocking the ground and pound attempt from Potapenko.
Potapenko lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Hoyce wants to control but Potapenko is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Hoyce has hold of Potapenko's hands but Potapenko slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoyce slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hoyce keeping moving, preventing Potapenko from controlling successfully.
Potapenko postures up in Hoyce's guard and throws a big left but Hoyce blocks it.
Potapenko trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Potapenko is looking to advance position but Hoyce has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Potapenko tries to lock up and control but Hoyce gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Potapenko sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Hoyce not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Potapenko can do anything to dispel that myth.
Potapenko is not content to let Hoyce control the position.
Hoyce trying to pass the guard but Potapenko defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hoyce looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Potapenko is looking to escape.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Hoyce moves in looking to clinch but Potapenko pushes him off.
Potapenko has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Hoyce throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hoyce throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Hoyce moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hennan Hoyce dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Alexey Potapenko's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Potapenko takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Potapenko shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hoyce has one foot on Potapenko's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Hoyce tries to clinch up but Potapenko circles away and keeps his distance.
Potapenko slips a jab from Hoyce.
Potapenko lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Potapenko goes for a double leg but Hoyce avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hoyce continues to drive forward.
Hoyce misses with a hook. Potapenko ducked under it nicely.
Potapenko throws out a counter right but Hoyce avoids it with no problem.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hoyce drops Potapenko with a beautiful combination! Potapenko stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Hoyce is looking for the KO!
Potapenko looks up at the clock. Bad move! Hoyce lands a right hand from hell, dropping Potapenko. Hoyce pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hennan Hoyce!
A very excited looking Hennan Hoyce made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
