Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jed Masilungan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Nilsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jed Masilungan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Nilsson!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Thiago Cunha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Masilungan misses its intended target.
Masilungan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nilsson as he avoids it easily.
Nilsson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Masilungan.
Masilungan scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Masilungan takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Masilungan scores with a punch to the head.
A big left from Nilsson misses.
Nilsson on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Nilsson moves away from the strike by Masilungan.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nilsson throws a looping overhand right but Masilungan ducks down to avoid it.
Masilungan shoots in for a double leg but Nilsson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Nilsson lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Masilungan has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Masilungan and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Nilsson pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Nilsson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Masilungan's hands.

Masilungan feints and as Nilsson raises his hands in defense, Masilungan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Masilungan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nilsson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Nilsson can't keep his opponent in guard - Masilungan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Masilungan is controlling the pace.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Masilungan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nilsson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Masilungan is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nilsson pushes Masilungan off looking to stand but Masilungan dives back in and keeps control.
Masilungan trying to control the pace.
Masilungan has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jed Masilungan dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Nilsson tries to move into range but Masilungan moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Nilsson throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Masilungan.
Nilsson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Masilungan feints and as Nilsson raises his hands in defense, Masilungan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Masilungan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nilsson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Masilungan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Masilungan tries to free his leg and advance position but Nilsson is retaining full guard.

Masilungan controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Masilungan trying to control the position from guard on top but Nilsson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Masilungan pushing down on Nilsson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Masilungan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Masilungan wants to pass to mount but Nilsson is defending the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Masilungan controlling the pace.
Masilungan thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Nilsson to regain full guard.
Masilungan advances position into side control!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nilsson pushes Masilungan away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Masilungan gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Masilungan tries for a kimura but Nilsson is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Masilungan just content to control the position.
Nilsson wants to get back to his feet.
Masilungan controlling from side mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Masilungan tries for a kimura but Nilsson is defending well.
Masilungan controls the position from side control.
Masilungan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Nilsson sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jed Masilungan dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Masilungan swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Masilungan ducks under a wild hook from Nilsson.
Nilsson tries to land a leg kick but Masilungan saw it coming and moves away.
The fighters circling - Nilsson throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Nilsson takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nilsson looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Masilungan checks a leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nilsson throws the kick towards the body but Masilungan avoids it.

Masilungan closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Masilungan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Nilsson has escaped the position, nice work there.

Masilungan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Masilungan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Masilungan is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Nilsson's shoulder. That is not cool.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Masilungan is looking to take a break and control but Nilsson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
A lull in the action here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Masilungan is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Nilsson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Nilsson prevents Masilungan from improving position.
The ground and pound from Masilungan seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Jed Masilungan is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nilsson is trying to escape the position but Masilungan is controlling the position.
Nilsson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Masilungan has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Masilungan takes a little break here. Nilsson wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jed Masilungan just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Nilsson crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Masilungan - the referee stops the clock and Nilsson gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Masilungan. Nilsson manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jed Masilungan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Masilungan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
