The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shift tries to close the distance and clinch but Fairtex swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Fairtex goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

It looks like Alex Shift has been cut.
Fairtex misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Shift gets the takedown into side control.
Shift works to advance to full mount. Fairtex defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Fairtex is wriggling around trying to escape.
Shift can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Fairtex is looking to escape.
Fairtex is trying desperately to improve position.
Fairtex gets back to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Shift in particular looking to stall.
Fairtex is trying to stand.
Fairtex pushes Shift off but Shift dives into side control.

An elbow from Shift crashes against the mat.
Fairtex is trying to work for a sweep but Shift has mounted him!
Fairtex is desperately trying to improve his position but Shift has a good base and remains in mount.

Shift throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Fairtex is wriggling around trying to escape.
Fairtex bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Shift looking for a guillotine here but Fairtex defends easily.
Shift pulls Fairtex in close to prevent any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Fairtex stands and steps away. Shift gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Fairtex buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Shift looks gassed!
Fairtex throws a head kick that half lands.
Fairtex cracks Shift with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Shift misses with a takedown attempt - Fairtex sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Fairtex drops Shift with a left and a right! Oh, Shift is hurt - Fairtex dives into side control looking to finish!

Shift is rocked!
Fairtex in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Shift looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Fairtex turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!
