PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between David Karlsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donald Register (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karlsson comes to the cage accompanied by Mayhem. Register comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Mama Said Knock You Out kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! David Karlsson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Karlsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Donald Register!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karlsson lands a lovely overhand right.
Register stuffs the takedown attempt from Karlsson. Karlsson gets slowly back to his feet.
Register fails in his attempt to clinch.
Register moves in looking to clinch but Karlsson pushes him off.
Register throws the left hand but Karlsson avoids the punch easily.
Register tries to clinch but Karlsson is having none of it.
Register fails in his attempt to clinch.
Register scores with a jab to the jaw.
Register throws an overhand right that lands on Karlsson's shoulder, as Karlsson tries to avoid the shot.
Karlsson shoots in but Register avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Register misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Register tries to close the distance and clinch up but Karlsson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Karlsson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Karlsson.
Register tries to break the clinch but Karlsson is controlling the position.
Register doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Register gets caught flat footed, as Karlsson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Karlsson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Register works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Karlsson wants to pass the guard but Register is keeping the position.

Karlsson drops back looking for a leg! Register is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Register manages to kick Karlsson off! Karlsson jumps back into Register's guard.
Karlsson won't allow Register to sweep him here.
Register keeping moving, preventing Karlsson from controlling successfully.
Register really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Karlsson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Karlsson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Register won't be happy with that.

Karlsson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Karlsson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Karlsson has control of Register's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Register regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Karlsson looking to control but Register is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Register really wants to buck Karlsson off and get back to his feet.

Register using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Karlsson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Register makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Register stops a takedown attempt from Karlsson.

With the fighters up against the cage, Register throws an elbow but misses.
Register has had enough of the clinch but Karlsson keeps him there for the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Register is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Karlsson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Register keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Karlsson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Register's guard now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Karlsson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Karlsson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
