Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edwin Valero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Saint Maria!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maria throws a hook but Valero blocks it.
Valero appears to be looking for a big counter.
Maria will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Valero fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maria, pushing him back against the cage.
Maria is trying to force a seperation but Valero has the dominant position.
Valero pushes Maria back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Valero breaks the clinch.

Valero closes the distance and clinches.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Valero.

Valero pulls guard effortlessly.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Valero holds on and takes a little breather.

Valero is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Valero pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Valero has taken the fight to the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Valero breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Maria should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Maria misses with a takedown attempt - Valero sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Maria dives in for a single leg takedown but Valero sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Valero drives through with a takedown into Maria's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Maria preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Valero forces his way into half guard.
Valero slows the pace down in half guard.
Maria is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Valero scores with a couple of nice shots.

Valero stands up from half guard.
Maria tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Maria looks winded!

Valero takes the fight into the clinch.

Valero has Maria pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Valero pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Maria tumbling to the mat - Valero dives into Maria's guard.
Maria can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Valero controls the pace.

Valero decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Maria tries to keep at a distance but Valero has taken the fight into the clinch.
Maria's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Valero pulls guard successfully.

Valero escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maria gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Valero has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Maria off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Edwin Valero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Valero gets a double leg takedown into Maria's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Valero is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Valero stands and steps away. Maria gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Valero lands a jab-cross combination.

Valero closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Maria did well to prevent Valero getting side control.


Maria is rocked!

Valero seems to be looking for submissions.
Maria is still in real trouble! Can Valero finish him?
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Valero in particular looking to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edwin Valero dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Valero Rushes Maria and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Maria is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Valero Piles on the pressure and Maria crumples to the floor! This one is all over!
