Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kim Ruuti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nalle Karhunen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nalle Karhunen has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Kim Ruuti's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kim Ruuti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nalle Karhunen!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruuti throws a head kick but Karhunen moves out of range.
Karhunen takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Ruuti fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ruuti throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ruuti takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.


It looks like Kim Ruuti has been cut.
Ruuti looks for a takedown but Karhunen sprawls well.

Ruuti has closed the distance and engaged Karhunen in a clinch.

Karhunen successfully pulls guard.
Karhunen keeping moving, preventing Ruuti from controlling successfully.
Karhunen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Karhunen is trying to control the position but Ruuti postures up.

Karhunen is looking for a triangle but Ruuti pushes his legs off easily.
Ruuti trying to control the position from guard on top but Karhunen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Karhunen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ruuti's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ruuti controls Karhunen momentarily but Karhunen frees himself.
Karhunen tries to free his leg and advance position but Ruuti is retaining full guard.
Ruuti will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Karhunen feints and as Ruuti raises his hands in defense, Karhunen changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Ruuti gets a clinch.
Ruuti can't break the clinch.
Ruuti stops a takedown attempt from Karhunen.
Ruuti is trying to drag Karhunen to the mat but Karhunen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

and Ruuti counters by clinching up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Karhunen pulls guard effortlessly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ruuti is fighting to break Karhunen's control of his arms but Karhunen is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Karhunen looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ruuti is one step ahead there.

Karhunen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ruuti doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ruuti manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Karhunen working for a triangle but Ruuti defends it easily.
Karhunen is breathing heavily.
Ruuti trying to control the position from guard on top but Karhunen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ruuti lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Ruuti will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Karhunen pulls Ruuti in to control the position.
Karhunen wants to sweep but no luck.

Ruuti stands up and waves to Karhunen to follow him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Karhunen has his takedown stuffed
and Ruuti counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Ruuti looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Karhunen!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruuti scores with a one two! Karhunen had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Ruuti really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kim Ruuti seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Ruuti holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Ruuti has hold of one of Karhunen's legs. Karhunen is fighting the takedown attempt but Ruuti gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Karhunen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Ruuti works over Karhunen with some ground and pound from guard.

Ruuti cracks Karhunen with a solid left hand.
Ruuti looking to sit in guard and control but Karhunen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Ruuti bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Karhunen's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ruuti looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ruuti wants to stand but Karhunen has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Ruuti gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ruuti throws a head kick but Karhunen moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ruuti.
Ruuti circles away from the clinch attempt

and Ruuti decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Karhunen's guard.
Karhunen controls Ruuti momentarily but Ruuti frees himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kim Ruuti showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Ruuti has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
