PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rodrick Rich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that George Carter was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rodrick Rich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, George Carter!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Daniel Bishop and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rich backs up against the cage.
George Carter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Carter shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rich's guard.
Rich has control of Carter's left arm, preventing Carter from doing any damage.
Rich tries to strike from the bottom.
Rich is pulling down on Carter's head. It's preventing any offense from Carter, at least for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rich has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rich has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Carter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Carter gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Carter has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rich uses from the top position.
Rich throws a big elbow that misses.
Rich loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Carter wants to sweep here but Rich controlling him for the moment.

Our spies down at at Cozad MMA London inform us that Carter has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Carter has a closed guard, preventing Rich from standing up.
Rich wants to stand and escape but instead Carter has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Rich controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rich swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rich has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Rich decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Rich seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Carter throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rich throwing shots but Carter is blocking nicely.
Rich drops an elbow to the side of Carter's head.
Rich not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Carter looks winded!
It looks like Rich is going to stand back up.
Carter blocking the ground and pound attempt from Rich.
Rich wants to stand up but Carter has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Carter drives through and clinches with Rich against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Carter dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Carter looking to score a takedown here. Rich is defending well but Carter drives through and ends up in Rich's guard.
Rich looking for a sweep. Not yet Rich, not yet.

Carter is fighting to break Rich's control of his arms but Rich is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

George Carter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Carter is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rich's half guard.
Carter is breathing heavily.

Carter wants to stand but Rich has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Rich keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Carter is thwarting Rich's attempts to control the position.
Rich keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Rich continues to stall.
Carter trying to pass the guard but Rich defending well.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Carter has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rich is trying to control but Carter manages to pass to mount!
Rich wants to hold on but Carter pushes him away.
Carter throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Rich tries to hold on but Carter postures up.
Rich is looking to improve his position but Carter isn't that keen on the idea.
George Carter has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rich is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rich gets back to half guard.
Rich is looking to control Carter's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rich avoid being mounted?

Rich is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carter pulls his head out easily.
Rich is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Carter's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Carter's back!
Rich really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rich has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Carter's body.
Rich lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Rich lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carter takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Watch the back of the head! Comes the shout from the referee towards Rich.

Rich sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Carter taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rodrick Rich!
