PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brennan Abramson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephan Gutierrez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stephan Gutierrez!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Abramson shoots in and bounces Gutierrez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Gutierrez being controlled here, momentarily.

Abramson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gutierrez wants to stand up but Abramson is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Abramson postures up in Gutierrez's guard and throws a big left but Gutierrez blocks it.

Gutierrez has momentary wrist control but Abramson slips an elbow through the middle.
Abramson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gutierrez striking off his back but it's not causing Abramson any problems.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Gutierrez has his foot on Abramson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Abramson works his way back into a safe position though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Abramson scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Gutierrez to see if he's OK.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Gutierrez is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Abramson has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Abramson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gutierrez for as long as he can get away with.
Abramson takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Gutierrez to pass into mount.

Gutierrez is desperately trying to improve his position but Abramson has a good base and remains in mount.
Gutierrez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Gutierrez felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Abramson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Gutierrez wants to control but Abramson is having none of it.

Abramson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gutierrez has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Abramson gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Gutierrez regains guard.

Abramson gets to his feet. Gutierrez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Abramson connects with an inside leg kick.

Abramson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gutierrez was covering up waiting for the punch and Abramson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Brennan Abramson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Abramson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gutierrez can do to turn this around?

Abramson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gutierrez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Abramson pulls his head out easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Abramson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Gutierrez to his feet.

and Abramson makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Gutierrez is breathing heavily.

and Abramson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Gutierrez wants a takedown.
Brennan Abramson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stephan Gutierrez.
Gutierrez is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Abramson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Abramson gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Abramson jumps guard and drags Gutierrez to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Abramson is pulling down on Gutierrez's head to control his posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Abramson is on top in guard.

Gutierrez wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Abramson is now in half guard.

Gutierrez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Abramson is working away from the top position though.
Gutierrez is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Abramson is staying active.
Abramson is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Abramson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gutierrez has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brennan Abramson dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Abramson keeps the fight on the outside.
Abramson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gutierrez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gutierrez wants to clinch but Abramson slips to the side
and Abramson counters with a nice uppercut.

Abramson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Abramson lands a nice short elbow.
Abramson lands a big elbow from half guard. That looks like it's hurt Gutierrez quite badly. Gutierrez pulls Abramson in close trying to recover. Abramson postures up and lands two really hard shots that put Gutierrez on queer street! The ref takes a look and decides to call an end to the fight! Possibly an early stoppage but Gutierrez doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
