PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jamel Bernard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Uriah Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hall has chosen James Brown-Superbad as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jamel Bernard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Uriah Hall!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bernard on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Hall clinches up with Bernard and pushes him back against the cage.

Hall has Bernard pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Hall pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Bernard tumbling to the mat - Hall dives into Bernard's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hall throws a big right hand that misses.
Bernard is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Bernard looking for a guillotine here but Hall defends easily.
Bernard really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hall wants to get up but he can't break Bernard's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hall postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bernard avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hall wanted to stand there but Bernard had control of the position.

Bernard throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Hall stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Hall closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Hall gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Bernard.
Hall lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Hall gets through Bernard's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Bernard goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Bernard struggles to land a body shot inside as Hall controls his hands.

Hall tightens his grip and picks Bernard up, before dumping him to the ground. Bernard manages to land in guard.
Hall postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Bernard has his foot on Hall's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hall works his way back into a safe position though.
Bernard is breathing heavily.
Hall missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hall connects with a couple of short punches.
Bernard will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hall is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hall trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hall throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hall accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hall gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Hall manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bernard on his heels. He'll look to pass Bernard's guard now, I'm sure.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hall throws a big right hand that misses.

Hall is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hall is looking to work some ground and pound but Bernard has wrist control.

Hall stands up from Bernard's guard - Hall perhaps looking for a knockout.
Hall loads up on a big right hand but Bernard slips the punch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hall shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bernard manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hall throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bernard works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hall thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Bernard is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hall throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Hall gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Bernard gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Hall counters with a head kick that drops Bernard!


Bernard is rocked!
Bernard utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Oh Bernard is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hall postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Hall stands up and waves to Bernard to follow him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hall looks for a left high kick but can't connect. Hall backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Bernard's temple! It sends Bernard violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as Hall celebrates and the doctors try to help Bernard!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Flying Knee). Uriah Hall!
