PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between JD Stylo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Firuz Shahzad (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shahzad is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Fuel My Fire (The Prodigy). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stylo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Shahzad's guard.
Shahzad is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Stylo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Stylo stops Shahzad from standing up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Stylo's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Stylo postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Stylo is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Shahzad wants to stand and escape but Stylo is having none of it.
Stylo works over Shahzad with some ground and pound from guard.

Shahzad is rocked!
Stylo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Shahzad wriggles free and stands up.
Stylo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Shahzad as he avoids it easily.
No joy there for Shahzad, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Firuz Shahzad is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Stylo tries for a takedown but Shahzad sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Shahzad gets caught flat footed, as Stylo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Stylo stops Shahzad from standing up.
Stylo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Shahzad wants to stand and escape but Stylo is having none of it.

Shahzad wriggles free and stands up.
Horrible takedown by Stylo or perhaps it was just good defense by Shahzad which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JD Stylo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stylo takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Good leg kick by Shahzad there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Shahzad fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Stylo is out of range.

Stylo tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Stylo closes the distance and clinches up with Shahzad, looking for a takedown. Stylo pushes Shahzad against the cage but Shahzad circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Shahzad misses with a double jab.
Stylo has a takedown stuffed.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Shahzad wants to slow Stylo down by chopping away at his legs.
Nice takedown defense from Shahzad. No joy for Stylo on that attempt.

Stylo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Shahzad is fending him off so far but Stylo persists. Nope, Shahzad circles away and we're back to standing.

Stylo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Stylo works his way into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stylo looks up at the clock and then as Shahzad takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Stylo smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Stylo avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Shahzad scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
A slapping body kick lands there for Shahzad.
Stylo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Shahzad swivels and escapes.
