PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Aslak Aas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Urijah Faber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aas's entrance music is Nunnuka Nunnuka. A fine choice. Faber is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Choke - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Urijah Faber enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aslak Aas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Urijah Faber!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Phil Schofield and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aas uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Faber.
An attempted straight right counter from Aas misses the target.
Faber thows a left - swing and a miss!
Faber throws a hook but Aas blocks it.
Aas takes one to the chin there.
Aas misses with a looping right.
Aas has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Boom Boom Room in the buildup to the fight.
Aas gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Faber.
Aas has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Aas there as he acknowledges the shot.
Faber clobbers Aas with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Faber throws an overhand right that lands on Aas's shoulder, as Aas tries to avoid the shot.
Faber tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Aas swivels and escapes.
Aas tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Faber manages to circle out of the way.
Faber misses with an uppercut. Aas saw that one coming.

A jab from Faber misses.
Faber ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Aas moves away.
Faber throws a lazy uppercut
and Aas counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Faber is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Aas.
Faber moves forwards but Aas connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Aas throws a lazy head kick
and Aas takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Faber closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Faber lands in his opponent's guard.
Faber trying to control but Aas is working from the bottom.
Aas wants to get back to his feet but Faber is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Aas keeping moving, preventing Faber from controlling successfully.
Faber throwing strikes from guard but Aas blocks nicely.

Aas wants to stand up but Faber is controlling him.

Faber stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Aas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Aas missing with a left hand there. Faber was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Faber feints a counter leg kick.
Faber has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Urijah Faber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aas keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Faber.
Aas tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Faber manages to circle out of the way.
Faber swings widly with a right hand
and Aas connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Faber throws a hook but Aas avoids it easily.
Faber bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Aas looks to throw a body kick

and Faber counters with a takedown into side control.
Aas is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Faber trying to control the position but Aas is working away.

Faber looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Aas is pushing Faber's head away, looking to escape. Faber manages to hold on to the position though.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Aas on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Aas prevents Faber from moving into mount.
Faber grinds an elbow into Aas's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Urijah Faber dominated that round.
That's time! Aas's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Aas throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Faber's head.


Faber is rocked!
Faber ducks under a wild hook from Aas.
Aas misses with a right hand
and Faber cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Faber swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Faber throws an overhand right that lands on Aas's shoulder, as Aas tries to avoid the shot.
As Faber tries to get set, Aas tries to push him back and clinch up but Faber manages to avoid the attempt.

Aas closes the distance and pushes Faber back into the cage.
Aas lands a left hand.

A short body shot lands from Aas as the two fighters clinch.
A hook to the body from Aas.
Aas is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Knees in the clinch landing for Aas.
Aas lands a left hand that snaps the head of Faber backwards.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Aas looking to throw knees to the head but Faber is blocking nicely.
Aas gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Faber.
Faber tries for a takedown but Aas manages to get underhooks.

Faber throws a punch but it's blocked by Aas.
Faber lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Faber swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Aas misses with a knee strike.
Aas with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Aas lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Faber is still on wobbly legs! Can Aas finish him?

Faber tries to throw a body punch but Aas avoids it by throwing Faber back against the cage.
Faber seems to have recovered his senses.
Aas misses with a punch on the inside.
Aslak Aas has scored more points in the clinch so far.
Aas lands a shoulder strike.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Aas lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Faber fails to pull guard.
Faber changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Aas fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Faber looks to land a left hand but Aas moved out of range nicely.
Aas throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Aas connects with a nice looking jab.
Faber walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Aas checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Aas takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Faber throws a hook to the side of Aas's head but Aas sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Faber walks into a left hand.
Aas takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Aas lands a body shot.
Faber throws a hook but Aas avoids it easily.

Aas drives through and clinches with Faber against the cage.
Aas putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Faber in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Faber is breathing heavily.
Faber goes for a takedown in the clinch but Aas prevents it.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Aas as Faber tries to tie him up.
Aas with a knee to the head.

Aas connects with a big uppercut there that sends Faber tumbling to the ground! Aas follows him down into his guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Aas stopping the sweep attempt from Faber.

Faber looking for subs off his back but Aas has passed one foot through into half guard.
Aas tries to stand but can't do so whilst Faber controls his leg.
Faber wants to improve his position but Aas is controlling well.
Aas tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Faber.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Aslak Aas dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Faber closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Aas's guard.
Aas wants to get back to his feet but Faber is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Faber is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aas is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Urijah Faber has got the better of the ground game so far.

Aas utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Aas wants to stand and escape but Faber is having none of it.

Faber is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

and Faber counters with a takedown into side control.
Aas tries to escape but Faber is in control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Faber tries for a kimura but Aas is defending well.

Aas managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Faber.
Faber wants to lay and pray for a moment but Aas keeps working.
Faber lands a few punches from side control.
Faber trying to control the position but Aas is working away.

Faber thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Aas is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Faber asserts his dominance and retains side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Faber landing a few strikes.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Aas is trying to buck Faber off.
Aas takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Aas wants to get back to his feet but Faber drags him back down.
Aas takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Aas is trying to buck Faber off.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The ground and pound from Faber seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Urijah Faber comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Faber has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
