PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Boyce Fields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ground N Pound (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ground N Pound was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Boyce Fields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ground N Pound!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pound darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Pound throws a strike but Fields avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Fields keeping full guard, as Pound tries to pass.
Pound trying to control the position from guard on top but Fields is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fields has a closed guard, preventing Pound from standing up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Fields has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pound can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fields enables Pound to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fields manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Fields really is a fat lump.
Pound postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Pound tries to free his leg and advance position but Fields is retaining full guard.
Pound working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Pound has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Fields is proving hard to escape from.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Pound won't allow Fields to get back to his feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Pound rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Fields counters with a right hand to the body.

Pound scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Pound tries to advance to mount but Fields denies him.
Pound taking a breather here.
Pound wants to stand but Fields has his arm trapped.
Pound content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Fields trying his best to control but Pound has mounted him.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pound tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Pound looking to ground and pound but Fields is blocking nicely.
Fields in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Pound trying to control but Fields is having none of it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Pound in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Pound feints and as Fields raises his hands in defense, Pound changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Pound is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Fields being controlled here, momentarily.
Pound pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fields is keeping the position for now.
Pound throws an elbow that misses. Fields uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pound's guard. Nice move by Fields!

Fields is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Pound escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fields gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Pound is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fields defends well.

Fields drops back looking for a leg! Pound is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Pound manages to kick Fields off! Fields jumps back into Pound's guard.
Fields will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Pound doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Pound wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pound manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Fields manages to get himself to full guard.

Pound stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fields swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pound throws an elbow that misses. Fields uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Pound's guard. Nice move by Fields!

Ground N Pound has got the better of the ground game so far.

Pound wants to get up but he can't break Fields's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pound can do anything to dispel that myth.
Fields loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Fields stands up from Pound's guard - Fields perhaps looking for a knockout.

Pound moves into range and clinches up with Fields.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ground N Pound showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Fields decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fields thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pound throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Fields in particular looking to stall.
Pound tries to roll over but Fields keeps him under control.
Pound has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Pound is staying active underneath Fields, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Fields prevents Pound from standing back up.
Still in half guard, Fields seems content to control.
Pound desperately trying to maintain half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Pound is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Fields.

Pound shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Fields napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Fields takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fields pushes Pound away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Pound gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pound passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Fields!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Pound wants to control the pace but Fields is squirming around nicely.
Pound is in the full mount, landing strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pound working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Boyce Fields has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ground N Pound is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Pound content just to control the position here.

Ground N Pound comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Pound winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
