Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cain Velasquez!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 29 - 3, fighting out of Sydney, Duncan McAlister!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Velasquez with a poor takedown
and McAlister counters with a one-two to the body.
Velasquez keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from McAlister.
Velasquez looks for a takedown but McAlister sprawls well.
McAlister cracks Velasquez with an open hand slap.
McAlister throws the left hand but Velasquez avoids the punch easily.
McAlister uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Velasquez.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velasquez shoots and misses
and McAlister counters with a nice low kick that buckles Velasquez's knee momentarily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cain Velasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Velasquez cracks McAlister with a right hand to the side of the head.

Velasquez gets a takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McAlister is trying to get back to full guard.
McAlister felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
McAlister wants to control but Velasquez is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Velasquez perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
McAlister is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Velasquez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Velasquez's back!

McAlister has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Velasquez is defending well but eventually McAlister manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Velasquez has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Duncan McAlister!
Duncan McAlister is the new heavyweight champion!
A relieved looking Duncan McAlister thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
