PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hit Run (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Moka Moka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hit Run!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Moka Moka!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Peter Branson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Run will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Moka throws a leg kick which misses Run's front leg but catches the back leg as Run tries to avoid it.
Run blocks a low kick nicely.
We've been hearing reports that Run has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Moka tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Run is able to avoid easily.
Moka throws a low kick but it's checked well by Run.
Moka looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Moka misses with a low kick.
Moka ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Run moves away.
Moka throws a chopping leg kick but Run manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Run feinted with a counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Run loads up on a big right hand but Moka slips the punch.
Moka is looking to score with low kicks.
Moka throws an overhand right that lands on Run's shoulder, as Run tries to avoid the shot.
Moka lands with a shot to the body.

Run fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Run shoots in but Moka avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hit Run. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Moka throws a quick inside leg kick.
Moka misses with a few strikes there.

Run bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Moka is trying to control Run's posture but Run avoids it.
Moka gets back to half guard.

Moka is defending against the submission attempts here by Run.

Run is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Moka sees it coming and defends easily.

Run is working for a kimura but Moka is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Run looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Moka gets back to full guard.
Moka has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at The Hut - $50. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Moka looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Run tries to free his leg and advance position but Moka is retaining full guard.
Run trying to control the position from guard on top but Moka is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Moka pulls Run in close to prevent any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Run throws a hook to the side of Moka's head but Moka sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Run closes the distance and clinches up with Moka, looking for a takedown. Run pushes Moka against the cage but Moka circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Moka throws a series of punches but Run avoids them all with ease.
A slow jab from Moka misses its intended target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Moka throws a low kick but Run avoids it.
Moka scores with a hook to the body. Run takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Moka throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Run is defended easily by Moka.

Moka Moka seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Moka wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Moka lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Run tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Moka swivels and escapes.
Run shoots in for a takedown but Moka shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Moka misses with a few strikes there.
Jab, jab by Moka - just one landing.
Run takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Moka fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Run fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Moka is looking to slow Run down with leg kicks.

Run pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Moka throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Run sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Moka moves into range and connects with a jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Moka throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Moka throws a nice inside leg kick.
Moka throws a head kick that misses.
Run feinted with a counter takedown.
Moka misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Run drops down looking for a counter takedown but Moka sprawls and moves away.
Run keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Moka takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Moka jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Moka motions for Run to come forward. Moka throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Moka lands a nice shot that snaps Run's head back.
Run moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Run shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Moka as he jumps to the side.
Moka wants to slow Run down by chopping away at his legs.
Moka swings for the body but Run moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moka misses with a low kick.

Run looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Run is trying to work for a kimura but Moka is defending well.
Run could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Moka is doing well to control the position and prevent Run from advancing to side control.

Run is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Moka tries to roll over but Run keeps him under control.

Run is trying to work for a kimura but Moka is defending well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Moka works his way to full guard. Good work.

Run is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Run wants to pass the guard but Moka is keeping the position.
Moka tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Moka pulls Run in close to prevent any damage.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Run won't allow Moka to sweep him here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Run shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Moka pinned against the cage. Moka gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Moka tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Hit Run has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Run misses with a takedown attempt - Moka sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hit Run. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Moka throws a body punch but Run moves out of range.
Moka Moka is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Moka throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Run slips a jab from Moka.
Moka uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Run has time to react.
Moka paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Moka is looking to chop away at Run's legs.
Run tries to clinch but Moka moves out of range.
A jab from Moka finds it's way through Run's defenses.
Moka fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Run on the side of the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Moka does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Moka lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Moka Moka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Moka winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
