PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Benton Clayton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Bearowsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Benton Clayton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Bearowsky!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clayton shoots in looking for a takedown but Bearowsky manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Clayton's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bearowsky misses with an attempted mid kick.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Clayton enables Bearowsky to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Clayton manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Bearowsky tries to free his leg and advance position but Clayton is retaining full guard.

Bearowsky drops back, looking for a kneebar! Clayton looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Clayton looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Clayton!

Clayton postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Bearowsky is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bearowsky is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Clayton is just riding it out for now. Bearowsky eventually gives up the hold.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Benton Clayton dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Clayton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bearowsky sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Clayton somewhat.

Clayton is fighting off a takedown attempt but Bearowsky is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Clayton to the mat. Clayton regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Clayton wants to control from the top but Bearowsky keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Clayton holds on and takes a little breather.

Bearowsky tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bearowsky has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Clayton is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Bearowsky goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Clayton has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bearowsky but great work by Clayton.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Clayton shoots in looking for a takedown. Bearowsky tries to sprawl out of it but Clayton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bearowsky manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Clayton shoots in for a takedown but Bearowsky shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Clayton tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bearowsky smiles and moves away.
