PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Belcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Rekis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rekis has chosen AC/DC - Thunderstruck as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Belcher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rekis!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rekis drives through and clinches with Belcher against the cage.

Rekis successfully pulls guard.
Belcher lands a couple of digs.
Rekis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Belcher distracts Rekis with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Rekis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Belcher with a flurry of punches that miss.
Rekis working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Belcher.
Belcher loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Belcher stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rekis swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rekis is looking for a triangle but Belcher pushes his legs off easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Belcher postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Belcher wants to control from the top but Rekis keeps moving.
Belcher won't allow Rekis to sweep him here.

Belcher throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Belcher is pushing down on Rekis's leg trying to pass to half guard. Rekis is fighting to maintain full guard but Belcher has managed to sneak the leg through.
Rekis told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Belcher is working for a kimura but Rekis is defending it quite comfortably.

Rekis is looking to control Belcher's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rekis avoid being mounted?
Belcher looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Rekis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Rekis is looking to improve his position.

Rekis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Belcher.
Rekis gets full guard.
Belcher trying to control the position from guard on top but Rekis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Belcher throws an elbow that misses. Rekis uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Belcher's guard. Nice move by Rekis!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rekis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rekis content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Rekis lands a couple of elbows.

Rekis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Belcher looking for a guillotine here but Rekis defends easily.

Belcher is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Belcher is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rekis defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rekis is looking to work some ground and pound but Belcher has wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Rekis stuffs the takedown.
Rekis tries to counter by closing the distance.
Belcher misses with a takedown attempt
and Rekis counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

John Rekis dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Belcher bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Belcher sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Rekis is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Belcher shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rekis sprawls well. Rekis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Belcher gets slowly back to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rekis! But no joy.

Rekis has hold of one of Belcher's legs. Belcher is fighting the takedown attempt but Rekis gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Rekis makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Rekis drops back, looking for a kneebar! Belcher looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Belcher looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Belcher!

Belcher throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Belcher wants to control but Rekis is keeping him busy.
Belcher creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rekis sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rekis is not content to let Belcher control the position.
Check out the look on Belcher's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

And that's the end of the fight!
Jake Belcher showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Belcher has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
