Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Joel Romero Basquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shayne Cairncross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shayne Cairncross will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Basquez on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Cairncross fails in his attempt to clinch.
Basquez throws a series of punches but Cairncross avoids them all with ease.
Cairncross tries to clinch but Basquez moves out of range.
Basquez throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
A shot to the liver by Cairncross. Beautiful body shot.
Cairncross tries for a takedown but Basquez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Basquez checks a low kick from Cairncross.
Basquez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cairncross tries to avoid it but Basquez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cairncross to the ground. Cairncross escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Basquez tries to clinch up but Cairncross circles away and keeps his distance.
Cairncross tries to close the distance and clinch but Basquez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Basquez moves into range and clinches up with Cairncross.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Basquez just misses with a elbow thrown towards Cairncross's brow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Basquez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Basquez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A countering left hand to the body from Cairncross misses.
Cairncross throws a perfectly timed hook that sends Basquez crashing down! Basquez tries to stagger back to his feet but Cairncross just hammers him until the ref stops the fight! A confused Basquez asks the ref what just happened. Poor fella.
