PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kane Edgers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Edgers comes into a darkened arena with his song building. (Rock) kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenny Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kane Edgers!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Edgers shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Edgers showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Edgers wants to control but Mitchell is keeping him busy.
Edgers tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mitchell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Mitchell wants to get back to his feet.

Edgers is looking for a kimura here.
Mitchell pushes Edgers off looking to stand but Edgers dives back in and keeps control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edgers wants to pass the guard but Mitchell is defending well.
Mitchell is refusing to be controlled, as Edgers sits in half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Edgers looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Mitchell has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Edgers is on him like a limpet, forcing Mitchell back against the cage.
Edgers tries to break free but Mitchell pushes him back against the cage.

Edgers gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Mitchell regains guard.
Mitchell lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mitchell lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Mitchell won't allow Edgers to sweep him here.
Edgers looking to control.
Edgers working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mitchell.
Edgers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mitchell is one step ahead there.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mitchell gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Edgers tries a low kick but Mitchell avoids it.
As Edgers tries to get set, Mitchell tries to push him back and clinch up but Edgers manages to avoid the attempt.
Edgers lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Kenny Mitchell has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mitchell clinches up with Edgers and pushes him back against the cage.

Mitchell keeps control of Edgers as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Edgers turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Edgers manages to end up in side control.
Mitchell is looking to regain half guard here but Edgers keeps moving and retains side control.
Mitchell keeps Edgers under control for a moment.
Mitchell is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Mitchell is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Edgers is controlling him well.
Mitchell sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Mitchell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mitchell is not content to let Edgers control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Edgers is working for a kimura but Mitchell is defending it quite comfortably.

Edgers tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mitchell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edgers throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mitchell tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Edgers is in Mitchell's guard.
Mitchell is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Mitchell looking to control.
Edgers looking to sit in guard and control but Mitchell gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Edgers is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Mitchell working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Mitchell loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Edgers has momentary wrist control but Mitchell slips an elbow through the middle.
Mitchell keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Edgers's head.
Edgers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mitchell is one step ahead there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mitchell scoring with punches to the head and body.
Mitchell is working Edgers over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Edgers is trying to keep Mitchell in close.

Edgers is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mitchell is aware though and is defending well.
Edgers is breathing heavily.
Mitchell distracts Edgers with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Mitchell stands up and waves to Edgers to follow him.

Edgers shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Edgers showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mitchell is controlling Edgers's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Edgers wants to take a breather but Mitchell is having none of it.
Mitchell is controlling Edgers's trapped leg to prevent Edgers from advancing to side control.
Mitchell pushes Edgers off looking to stand but Edgers dives back in and keeps control.
Edgers is just content to waste time from the top position. Mitchell takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mitchell has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Mitchell is looking to stand up but Edgers isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mitchell is looking to clinch.

Mitchell takes the fight into the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Edgers's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kenny Mitchell will probably get the nod.

Edgers fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mitchell to the ground. Edgers is now in Mitchell's guard.
Kane Edgers has got the better of the ground game so far.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Mitchell holds on and takes a little breather.
Mitchell working a defensive guard but Edgers manages to pass into side control anyway.
Mitchell is looking for a sweep.
Edgers tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Edgers wants to control but Mitchell is keeping him busy.
Edgers fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Edgers decides to stand back up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mitchell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Edgers misses with a straight left.
Mitchell tries to counter by clinching up but Edgers breaks away and moves out of range.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Edgers forces his way into half guard.
Edgers takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Edgers trying to mount his opponent but Mitchell defends it.
Edgers wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mitchell keeps working.

Edgers stands up out of the half guard.
Edgers tries to clinch up but Mitchell circles away and keeps his distance.

Edgers shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mitchell controlling the position well.
Mitchell trying to control but Edgers postures up.
Edgers prevents Mitchell from improving his position.
Edgers throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mitchell is trying to stand up here but Edgers is controlling him well.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Edgers prevents Mitchell from improving his position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Edgers shoots in and gets a takedown into Mitchell's guard.
Edgers trying to control the position from guard on top but Mitchell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Edgers stops Mitchell from standing up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kane Edgers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Edgers has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
