PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Muhammed Al Mustapha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cuneyt Arkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Muhammed Al Mustapha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cuneyt Arkin!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arkin slaps away a takedown attempt from Al Mustapha, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Arkin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Al Mustapha is looking to clinch.

Arkin changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Al Mustapha looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
An elbow from Arkin crashes against the mat.
Al Mustapha tries to buck Arkin off but Arkin is having none of it.
Arkin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Al Mustapha. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Al Mustapha gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Arkin drops an elbow to the side of Al Mustapha's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Al Mustapha will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Al Mustapha has Arkin pulled in close to control his posture.

Al Mustapha ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Arkin moves away.

Arkin wanted to stand there but Al Mustapha had control of the position.

Al Mustapha isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Arkin stacks Al Mustapha on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Arkin!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A lull in the action here.
The ground and pound from Arkin seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Al Mustapha is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Arkin's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Arkin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Arkin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Al Mustapha keeps working.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Al Mustapha takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Al Mustapha tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Arkin is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Al Mustapha throws a front kick aimed at Arkin's knee but Arkin avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cuneyt Arkin dominated that round.

Al Mustapha throws a series of punches but Arkin moves out of range.

Al Mustapha drives through with a takedown into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Arkin can do anything to dispel that myth.
Arkin trying to keep a closed guard but Al Mustapha is proving a slippery customer.
Al Mustapha trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Arkin has his hands on Al Mustapha's head, controlling the position.

Arkin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Arkin is fighting to break Al Mustapha's control of his arms but Al Mustapha is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Arkin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Al Mustapha has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Arkin has managed to get both his arms back between Al Mustapha's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Arkin wants to stand but Al Mustapha has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Arkin drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Al Mustapha defends it well.

Arkin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Al Mustapha to the ground. Arkin is now in Al Mustapha's guard.
Al Mustapha pulls Arkin in close to prevent any damage.

Al Mustapha had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Arkin defends it easily.
Arkin content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Arkin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

That was a close second round but I would say that Muhammed Al Mustapha will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Arkin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Al Mustapha works his way to full guard. Good work.

Al Mustapha shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Muhammed Al Mustapha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Arkin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Al Mustapha dives in for a single leg takedown but Arkin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Al Mustapha takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Arkin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Arkin not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Al Mustapha is looking to improve his position.
Cuneyt Arkin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Arkin takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Al Mustapha fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Arkin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Al Mustapha's guard.

Muhammed Al Mustapha has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Cuneyt Arkin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Arkin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
