Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jamison Byrd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gilbert Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gilbert Rodriguez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jamison Byrd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gilbert Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rodriguez clinches up against the cage.

Byrd's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rodriguez throws a series of punches but Byrd avoids them all with ease.

Rodriguez moves into the clinch successfully.

Byrd manages to break the clinch.
Rodriguez connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Rodriguez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Byrd manages to get back to half guard.
Byrd is controlling Rodriguez's trapped leg to prevent Rodriguez from advancing to side control.
Byrd has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Byrd continues to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rodriguez seems to be working for a kimura but Byrd defends the submission attempt.

Rodriguez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Byrd pulls Rodriguez in to control the position.
Byrd looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rodriguez is one step ahead there.
Byrd has control of Rodriguez's left arm, preventing Rodriguez from doing any damage.
Rodriguez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Rodriguez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Byrd's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rodriguez postures up in Byrd's guard and throws a big left but Byrd blocks it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Rodriguez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Byrd is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Rodriguez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Byrd throws a lazy right hand but Rodriguez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Byrd rushes Rodriguez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Rodriguez cracks Byrd with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
