PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sean Piper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Magdaleno Leonardo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leonardo is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Pose. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Leonardo or perhaps it was just good defense by Piper which made him look bad.
Piper shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Leonardo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Piper's guard now.
Piper is trying to keep Leonardo in close.
Leonardo trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Leonardo postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Piper not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Leonardo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Piper swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Piper working for a triangle but Leonardo defends it easily.
Leonardo wants to pass the guard but Piper is keeping the position.
Leonardo is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Leonardo prevents Piper from getting back to his feet.

Piper wriggles free and stands up.
Leonardo doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Piper counters with a head kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Leonardo.
Sean Piper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Magdaleno Leonardo.

and Leonardo counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Piper looking for a guillotine here but Leonardo defends easily.
Piper wants to stand and escape but Leonardo is having none of it.
Leonardo stands and throws Piper's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Leonardo trying to control the position but Piper is working away.
Piper is trying to get back to half guard.
Leonardo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Piper keeps working.
Piper is looking to reverse the position.
Leonardo working the body and head with strikes.

Leonardo has hold of Piper's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Piper tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Leonardo cranks the arm and Piper screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Piper, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
