Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Michael Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Steiner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cruz comes to the cage accompanied by Forever. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Steiner!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steiner fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cruz sprawls well initially but Steiner persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Steiner is looking for a kimura here.

Cruz is defending against the submission attempts here by Steiner.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Cruz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Steiner on the ground.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cruz is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Steiner lands with a kick to the temple. Cruz shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Steiner tries to clinch up but Cruz circles away and keeps his distance.
Steiner tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cruz swivels and escapes.

Cruz rushes Steiner and presses him up against the cage.

Cruz jumps into guard, dragging Steiner to the mat.

Cruz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Steiner drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Steiner jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Steiner drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cruz looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cruz looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cruz!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mark Steiner will probably get the nod.
That's time! Cruz's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Cruz connects with a solid leg kick.
Steiner tries to close the distance and clinch but Cruz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cruz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Steiner is fending him off so far but Cruz persists. Nope, Steiner circles away and we're back to standing.

Steiner darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Steiner wants to work for an arm triangle but Cruz is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Steiner is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cruz is just riding it out for now. Steiner eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Cruz closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cruz lands in his opponent's guard.

Steiner had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Cruz is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Steiner Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Cruz's back instead.

Cruz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Steiner swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Steiner working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cruz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cruz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Steiner is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Cruz has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Can Cruz hold on?! Steiner is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
You can see the frustration on Cruz's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Steiner is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Cruz has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Steiner has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Cruz taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Steiner doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mark Steiner!
