Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wes Welker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Venkman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wes Welker!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Venkman!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Venkman fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Welker manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Venkman manages to get himself to full guard.
Welker postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Welker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Venkman tries to reverse the position but Welker maintains control.

Welker gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
A nice leg kick lands there from Welker.
Welker will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Welker is stalling here. Venkman is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Welker seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Venkman has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Welker wants to control but Venkman is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Venkman drops down looking for an ankle pick but Welker pulls his leg out and moves away.

Venkman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Welker's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Welker is on top in guard.

Venkman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Welker throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Venkman stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Welker just misses with a punch to the body.

Horrible takedown by Venkman or perhaps it was just good defense by Welker which made him look bad.
Venkman checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Welker shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Welker has hold of Venkman's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Venkman manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Welker is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Venkman can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The referee warns Venkman that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Venkman on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Venkman is trying to control Welker's posture but Welker avoids it.

Welker tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Welker has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Venkman takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Welker moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Welker scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Wes Welker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Welker throws a push kick but Venkman slaps the foot to one side.
Venkman looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
